Since the inception of the Great Pyrenees Rescue of Atlanta in 2010, we have seen a lot of Pyrenees and mixed Pyrenees come through the rescue that have found their forever homes. It took nine years for GPRA to welcome a special girl by the name Avett. Avett found her way to our rescue from a sweet couple who adopted her from the Sweet Basil Kennel when she was just a puppy. They quickly learned that she was full of energy and had a lot of the PYR personality. They felt she needed more than what they could give her, and they surrendered her to us. This was the first time that GPRA took in a doodle... a Pyr-doodle. We were all exited to welcome her to the group and couldn't wait to help her find her forever home. Avett was a true Rockstar the day she came into the rescue group. She went into a foster home where she waited for her family to come. It didn't take long and within 24 hours, the phone was ringing, and adopters were asking about her and wanted to meet her.
We wanted her to go to a loving home where she had a furry playmate and kids to play with. Avett hit the jackpot.
Here's an update on our first Pyr-doodle from her new family.
Saffy came to us after a lengthy search for a buddy for our Bear. We'd been approved with GPRA for over a year while we were searching for new Great Pyrenees for our family. We saw Saffy pop up on the GPRA page and immediately jumped on the chance to meet and adopt her. Saffy was the sweetest girl, however, she was skittish of new people, had her days and nights flipped and needed to work on her doggie behavior skills. We set out to teach her how to be the best girl she could be, she's incredibly smart and truthfully, she learned most from her doggie brother Bear. She's mostly mastered how to heel on a leash, loves long walks and hiking (tired dog = good dog), eats anything and everything (food, bugs, dirt, grass, book bindings), loves to chase rabbits and chipmunks across the yard and is learning that new people are nice and give belly rubs. She's a great sleeper now and will snuggle in bed as long as she can. While she doesn't look much like a Great Pyrenees, she's definitely got the bark and the dreaded pyr paw.
