February, 2020
Sigma Delta Tau is Back at the University of Pittsburgh!
Our SDT National Team, led by Past National President, Beth Gruber, welcomed 120 founding members on Sunday. It was an exciting special recruitment as our team of National volunteers and staff, SDT collegians from Penn State and Kent State and local SDT alumnae shared our message of Empowering Women with potential members. Our new founders collectively hope to enrich the Pitt Greek Community by creating a sorority that celebrates each member's uniqueness and is dedicated to meaningful community service that impacts Pitt and the greater local community. Initiation of our founding class is on Friday, April 3rd in the evening. Local alumnae are invited to participate. If you would like to attend the initiation ceremony, please contact nationaloffice@s igmadeltatau.org by 12 Noon, Monday
March 23rd.

Recommend Potential New Members
Is your daughter, granddaughter or someone you know going through recruitment? Did you know that you can recommend them for membership in SDT?

A legacy is a sister, daughter, granddaughter, great-granddaughter and step relationship (e.g., step-sister/daughter) of a member. Legacies are given special consideration throughout the recruitment process. To read more about the legacy policy and to recommend a legacy, click here .

As an alumna member of SDT, you are also able to recommend anyone you know going through formal recruitment. Complete the recommendation form below and the National Office will send it directly to the chapter.
Protect Yourself and Your Documents
With the New Year upon us, multiple law enforcement agencies across the country are advising consumers, legal and financial professionals to take care to write out the entire year “2020” when dating and signing documents. Using the shorter abbreviation will allow fraudsters to alter documents by adding numerals after the “20,” thus altering the date and legal impact of those documents. For example, 01/10/20 could easily be altered to read 01/10/2019; in some cases, this alteration may render the document void.
Check in with Yourself and a Friend
Lifestyle Feature By: Erica Riba, LCSW, LMSW, Beta Beta-Michigan State University
My name is Erica Riba, LCSW, LMSW and I’m Director of Higher Ed & Student Engagement a t The Jed Foundation , a non-profit based in New York City, that exists to protect emotional health and prevent suicide for our nation’s teens and young adults. I found my sisterhood when I was a freshman in college, at Michigan State University (MSU). I joined Sigma Delta Tau (shout-out Beta Beta) and never looked back. After MSU, I received a degree in social work from the University of Michigan and my career has been focused on college mental health.
When in a sorority we see it all - the beginning of friendships, the stress of exams and final papers, the breakup of relationships, feeling pressed for time, figuring out how to balance social activities, more freedom, availability of alcohol and drugs, not getting enough sleep, and even feeling homesick. We even experience times when we’re feeling off, down, sad, and anxious.
