Director's Note
I vymount is committed to ensuring a culture of kindness by dedicating February as IvyCares Month . During this month we celebrate caring as a priority by creating opportunities for our students, staff and community to:

  • Reflect on the positive impact our actions can have on others
  • Practice daily concern and kindness to others
  • Value our relationships with each other and invest in these friendships/partnerships
  • Expand our circle of care by taking steps to make positive changes in our community

We had a great turnout Saturday to celebrate the finale of January's IvyMoves Month with ZamDance. Many Ivymount, Outreach and Alumni families and staff participated. The month WAS action packed. Don't miss hearing from our students in the IvyMoves video below! We salute our dedicated PE department for taking the lead and making this month so productive. I am confident they will keep us moving throughout the year's IvyMoves Initiative.

We are all getting excited about our upcoming Resource Fair on Sunday, February 23 . We hope to see you there! Many of our amazing staff will be presenting workshops for parents and professionals. See below for a highlight. Please don't forget to register.

We hope all of you will follow us on our new Facebook page. See the link below and please like and share our posts with the wider community.

Finally, we wanted to call your attention to our Spring Outreach Catalog below. Education Programs start Saturday, February 22 . We are pleased to introduce a new morning program for parents starting Friday, February 28 .

Have a wonderful week.

Students Smash Step Challenge Goal
Ivymount students logged a strong final week during January's movement month, to end up 13 per cent over their step challenge goal. Wearing pedometers that recorded their steps, they walked, jogged, and ran 230,648 steps during PE and Fitness classes last week.

The final total for movement month was 906,385 steps taken. That means they more than covered the distance to walk through all the communities from which students come to Ivymount. Way to move!

Physical activity increases heart rate, sending higher levels of oxygen to the brain, for improved mental clarity and increased ability to retain information. Ivymount is committed to helping students get at least 30 minutes of physical activity daily. As part of our IvyMoves initiative, the Adapted Physical Education team asked students how they like to move. Take a look!

IvyMoves Community Event
Gets Hearts Pumping

It was high-energy fun as Ivymount wrapped up Movement Month with a community event for families.

More than 90 guests plus Ivymount staff got their hearts pumping at a ZamDance session that combined fitness moves such as jumping jacks, squats, and kicks with dance moves, all set to music.

ZamDance, created by former Ivymount employee Jackie Zamora, brings fitness opportunities to children, youth and adults with disabilities throughout the region.
