St. Peter Lutheran School Hemlock, MI
St. Peter alumnus, Andrew Wylie, made an appearance at school this week. Andrew plays football for the Kansas City Chiefs who made back to back appearances in the Super Bowl and were crowned champions in SB LIV. He spoke to our students (who were very excited to meet him), answered questions, gave out autographs, and took some pictures. He even donated his signed jersey to our school! It was great to have him back in the building. He has lots of good memories from his days at St. Peter!

Christ Is Our Cornerstone
In Our Prayers: We are praying for our St. Peter alumni. Next week we will be praying for the St. Peter Lutheran School Class of 2008: Kyle Brugge, Charles Gaeth, Katerina Keel, Abigail Kube, Taylor Morgan, Lindsay Oczepek, Jacob Putnam, Krystle Reiss, Nicholas Theriault, Jacob Wardin, and Emily Wasmiller.

Devotion of the Week: In chapel this week, we were able to speak together the Explanation to the Second Article. It is not only a wonderful reminder of what Jesus, our Cornerstone, did for each and everyone of us, but it is wonderful how Luther ends all of his explanations with the statement: This is most certainly true. Wouldn't it be great in our world today if only those things that were true had that same disclaimer? Things would be so much different. But of course, it is difficult to sift through the overwhelming amount of data we receive on a daily basis from so many sources and try to figure out what is most certainly true. Thank God that our students hear the good news of great joy daily that Jesus is our Savior from sin, death, and the devil. Thank God that what our students learn in our school can include This is most certainly true. May God continue to bless our Lenten journey as we focus on our Lord and Savior Jesus as Luther explains so well in this Second Article of the Apostle's Creed:
I believe that Jesus Christ, true God, begotten of the Father from eternity, and also true man, born of the Virgin Mary, is my Lord, who has redeemed me, a lost and condemned person, purchased and won me from all sins, from death, and from the power of the devil; not with gold or silver, but with His holy, precious blood and with His innocent suffering and death, that I may be His own and live under Him in His kingdom and serve Him in everlasting righteousness, innocence, and blessedness, just as He is risen from the dead, lives and reigns to all eternity.
This is most certainly true.
Lutheran Heritage Foundation: Thank you for your continued support for our chapel project this quarter. Children attending Lutheran schools in Indonesia get to keep their books and bring them home to share with their families. What a wonderful way to get God's Word into homes!
Lenten Worship: Our weekly Lenten services are on Thursdays at 6:30pm and these services are different from our Sunday services. Next week's Lenten theme is Return from False Witness.

Our Condolences: Our prayers are with the family of Miss Jean Thomas, former St. Peter teacher, upon the death of her mother, Mrs. Gertrude Thomas. May God surround Miss Thomas and her family with His comfort and peace.

In the Classroom
Fourth Grade Writing Workshop: If you had the chance to name a calf what name would you choose? How about Grace or Carl? The fourth graders were presented with a fun opportunity from Hanford Topham’s grandparents, Brian and Joann Frederick, to provide a name for one male and one female calf that will soon be born on their farm. The students wrote a persuasive piece in writing workshop to convince Hanford’s grandparents as to why the calf name they chose should be used.
What Pet Would You Get: During our kick-off of reading month, the third graders drew pictures this week which showed what pet they would choose from a Dr. Seuss type pet store. They had some creative choices!
Future Botanists: The Fifth and Sixth graders are studying plant life in science class. Do you remember studying xylem and phloem? Students were getting a close up look at a plant by using microscopes. Also, while learning about angiosperms (seed plants that produce flowers), the Fifth and Sixth graders dissected different types of fruit to compare seeds. The question most asked, "Can we eat them?"
What's Your Story
A second grade girl was outside during SPLASH (our after school child care program) playing with a few of our toddlers. One of the toddler's boots fell off so this second grader helped her put her boot back on. She then turned to Ms. Lindsay and said, "You know, if I'm going to be a mom some day, I'm going to need to know about all the struggles."

We are always looking for additional stories to share. Please click here to send us your story to be published in the Panther Press.
