NOVEMBER 2019 UPDATE
from
WYOMISSING AREA EDUCATION FOUNDATION
Mike Miller is working with his students on an Islamic Geometry mural .
As part of the collection of public art in West Reading ,
students in the JSHS Public Art Workshop will help to create a new mural.
The theme of this mural is inspired by the complex patterns found in Islamic Geometry.
Here are a few photos showing the progress they've made so far!
WAEF is supporting the cost of this mural through a generous donation from one of our supporters who was inspired by this idea and wanted to help.
The Amin Family Scholarships were established in memory of Mandan Amin by her children. In 2019, WAEF awarded FIVE $2,000 Amin Family Scholarships.
This year, the Amin family is adding a NEW $1,000 scholarship!

Mandan Amin began her life in Iran and learned the importance of education at an early age. Her love of science and medicine paired with strong ambition led her to follow an unconventional path, moving to Tehran and later to Germany and finally the United States to follow her dreams. Mandan was a person who pushed her children and others to be their best selves. She believed that everyone had some talent and through education and hard work, they could realize their own American Dream.
This scholarship supports future nursing students who have the desire and ability to continue their education post-graduation but do not have the financial means to do so. This nursing scholarship is inspired by Patty Amin’s career in nursing and aims to support a student who wishes to pursue a career in nursing.
If you are or if you know a current senior at Wyomissing who might be eligible for this scholarship or any of WAEF's scholarships, please click on the link below to apply!
WAEF was proud to support this one-day
performance experience by the Pennsylvania Shakespeare Festival !
This group of talented actors performed in front of all students in grades 9-12 this week. Mr. Pete Beck and Mr. James Comerford submitted this grant application in an effort to provide students more exposure to and an appreciation for the work of William Shakespeare . This performance of MacBeth was selected because all students have read or will read this play as part of their 10th grade Language Arts curriculum.
This WAEF grant touched the lives of approximately 600 students!
W e are grateful for the support of our community that made today's performance possible!
WAEF has received SIX EITC donations so far this year! WAEF and WASD representatives gathered for photos with our supporting businesses: Tompkins VIST Bank , Riverview Bank , and Orrstown Bank , pictured here. In addition, WAEF has received donations from Weis Markets , UPMC Health Plan , and
East Penn Manufacturing Company .

EITC is a win/win for schools and businesses!
WAEF is an approved Educational Improvement Organization (EIO) in
PA's Educational Improvement Tax Credit Program.
The EITC program provides companies with a direct tax credit of up to 90 percent for a two- year commitment toward the amount a business owes in state taxes. This program leaves companies with a much smaller state tax bill while providing educational resources and programming to over 1900 students in the Wyomissing Area School District.
The EITC program allows companies to keep their tax dollars local and designate where
they go rather than having the state choose.
Planning is underway for the 2020 Toast events ! If you are interested in volunteering on the planning committee, donating an item or service, or becoming a sponsor , please email Molly for more information. Thank you!
