A Message From Our Senior Pastor
Dr. Joe Giaritelli
Merry Christmas to all my dear Lawndale family! As you well know, this is an especially busy time of the year. The hustle and bustle of running here and there can get in the way of reflecting on the true meaning of Christmas. It’s especially important, therefore, to remember to take time to “Be still and know that I am God.”  Psalm 46:10

For believers, this is a special time to reflect on the significance of Christ entering our sinful world. What does Christmas really mean? Perhaps its greatest meaning is found in the reason that God chose to enter time and space that first Christmas day. For if mankind’s greatest need had been technology, God would have sent us an illustrious techno-genius. If our greatest need had been material possessions, God would have sent us stockpiles of gold. If our greatest need was pleasure, God would have sent us a ‘Do whatever makes you feel good’ philosopher. But none of these would have taken care of our greatest need because our greatest need was forgiveness. So God sent us a Savior. And through Him, we have forgiveness of our sins and the gift of eternal life, a gift that was purchased by His blood and eternally measured by His love, the costliest gift ever purchased, the freest gift ever given.

Have a blessed and Merry Christmas,
Dr. Joe

Operation Christmas Child Thank you, Lawndale Baptist, for packing 835 gift filled shoeboxes this year. These boxes will be used to share the gospel of Jesus all over the world. This year Samaritan’s Purse expects some 12 million boxes to be collected. A special thank you is extended to Tim and Debbie Bowles and Yvonne Straughn for all their assistance in ordering supplies, placing boxes in cartons, and transporting them to Westover Church; our relay point for the Triad. From Westover, they then go to Charlotte for processing. We have a great team of 28 adults going to Charlotte Dec. 1 to assist in the processing of boxes. There are thousands of volunteers in eight processing centers across the US each year.

His Name is Jesus This delightful book will be given to our preschoolers in 10:45am Extended Teaching on Dec. 8. Parents please use this great little book to emphasize the coming of Jesus into our world.

Creative Children Create . Encourage your elementary child to have a display for our Art Display, opening Jan. 12 in the first floor Children’s Area. Your child can display a painting, a collage, a poem, or any other creative composition. Use days during the Thanksgiving / Christmas holidays to work on the art project. Email child’s name, name of project and medium used to Wanda Griffin at wdgriffin@lawndalebaptist.org. We will display this with each art project.  Example: “Sunset”, Ross Jones, watercolor. Creative children become creative adults.

Married Adults
Associate Pastor, Barry Owen
Merry Christmas: The apostle Paul commanded that husbands love their wives. In Roman society, it was recognized that wives had obligations to the husband but not husbands to their wives. Christianity was revolutionary in that it submitted the characteristic of godly love into the home. As you and your family celebrate this Christmas, you will find why marriage matters to God as you think about the greatest gift given to us all, a Savior—and it is Christ our Lord.

New Year’s Resolution : Read the Bible! If you have been wanting to read the Bible systematically and learn at the same time how to make disciples, then sign up for a D-group. D-groups are small groups of 3-8 people who meet weekly for prayer and accountability. We have over 40 groups that meet throughout the week—everyday and at different times for couples, college students, men and women. You can join a D-group by contacting the church office or by signing up in the lobby in January.

Marriage Mentoring : Our church has trained married adult leaders of all ages ready to mentor and help your marriage be all that it should be. Contact us for a confidential assessment and we can assign you to a couple who will come along side of you and help you navigate through the tough parts of marriage. Call the church office today for an appt.

Upcoming in 2020: Look for a marriage class and a special weekend training in September with author and speaker Jim Burns, President of Homeword.
