On a very chilly night, thank you for coming out to support our middle level students as they presented their living history museum projects. Our students worked hard on their projects and this event was a great opportunity for them to practice their presentation skills. The development of their public speaking skills is another important component of the well-rounded student we are educating at SMA.

And on the next chilly morning, we had six middle level students arrive to school in style. Our top Wallk-a-thon fundraisers enjoyed their special ride. We're happy to report that we raised over $21,000, an increase over last year's amount! Thank you for all your support!!

Next Thursday night at 5:30 p.m., we will be hosting an Open House for prospective Pre-Kindergarten and Kindergarten students for the 2020-2021 school year. Please help us spread the news. We're looking for new students and families to join the SMA family.

Enjoy a great weekend.

Peace and God's blessings,

Ms. Ann E. Dougal
Principal

From the Classroom of Ms. Kisiel - Gr. 8 English

Welcome To 8th Grade English

Hello! My name is Ms. Kisiel and this is my first year at St. Michael's Academy. I am the 8th grade English teacher and it has been a pleasure getting to know my students. We are off to a great start and everyone is settling in nicely.

During the first semester, we worked with a literary piece that the students had mixed feelings about. There were parts of the book that they enjoyed and parts that they felt were boring. This provided the perfect opportunity to turn their critiques into a creative writing assignment! We worked together as a class to create a list of criticisms and the students were then challenged to turn that list into a writing assignment. It has been interesting to read how some of the scenes have been rewritten to make the plot more interesting.

It is my goal to continue to provide writing opportunities for the students to enhance their abilities and demonstrate their understanding of the English subject.

 Living History Museum

Living History Museum!

If you attended the Living History Museum this week, you would agree that a lot of hard work went into the many projects on display.  Each student in the middle level either worked in a group or by themselves to create a fantastic presentation.

The 6th grade students needed to choose a topic
from the medieval time era.

The 7th grade students had the topic of the Revolutionary War.

And the 8th grade students had to choose a person of significance during the time period of 1840-1970.

What a diverse and fantastic collection of projects
representing a large span of history!

 Walk-a-thon Prize

Arriving To School In Style!

What better way is there to arrive at school than by limo? I bet they wish they could arrive to school every day like that! We congratulate our top Walk-a-thon fundraising students from the middle level who won the limo ride to school and had the opportunity to walk the red carpet into school while being cheered on by the entire student body!

- Jacob - 8A
- Sophia - 8C
- John - 7B
- Andrew - 7B
- Huong - 6A
- Corey - 6A

Great job students!  We appreciate your hard work!

And, as always, we send out a HUGE thank you to Michael's Limousine for donating the sweet ride that brought the students to school!  We appreciate your kindness!

Spelling Bee

 Spelling Bee News

The annual Spelling Bee will take place on March 12th at St. Mary's Academy in Longmeadow. Mrs. Nicoliello and Mrs. Croteau will be coaching the St. Michael's Academy team this year. Students in grades 4-8 are eligible to compete in the Bee.

Since we are only allowed to have 25 students on the
team, interested students will be given a list of words and a pretest will be held on Tuesday, November 19th in room 227 at 7:30 a.m. Students should enter through the before school entrance on the Eddywood side of the cafeteria.

Students receiving an 80% and above on the pretest will be selected for the team. Students who qualify for the team will receive a registration packet with information. Please return the
registration page to your homeroom teacher before December 1st.

Practices will start the second week of January, every Tuesday at 7:30 a.m. Spelling Bee requires 100% commitment and students should plan on attending all practices. We hope to have a great team this year!

Did You Know?

Did you know that every morning during the month of November our students are learning about Saints? This occurs during morning prayer when  students each day tell us about a special Saint and a little about their lives.

What a great way to start your day!

Prayer Life

Importance of Daily Prayer

Sometimes we get busy and forget about the importance of daily prayer. The more importance you place on your relationship with God, the more time you will want to spend with Him, learning about Him, sharing your praises of Him, telling Him what is on your mind, asking Him for wisdom and help, interceding for others, and learning from Him.

Simple conversations with God are a wonderful way to pray. If you prefer reciting a written prayer but are not sure where to locate them, click here.

Open Position

Substitute Custodian Needed

 Food Drive

Thanksgiving Food Drive

St. Michael's Academy Student Council is holding a Thanksgiving food drive for our friends at The Gray House.  They are especially looking for high protein and nutritious items.

Items to consider: canned vegetables, cans of gravy, boxed potatoes and rice, boxed pasta mixes like macaroni and cheese, boxes of baking goods like brownies and cakes, bags of flour, biscuit mixes, cans of fruit, aluminum roasting pans or money or gift cards to purchase a turkey.

Please send in your donations by Friday, November 22nd.

"It is in giving that we receive."

Food For Thought

"Three things are necessary for the salvation of man: to know what he ought to believe; to know what he ought to desire; and to know what he ought to do."
