THIS SUNDAY'S SERVICE
"JUST ONE STRAIN OF THE WHOLE EARTH'S SONG"
AMY HASSINGER
Sunday, November 17 at 10:15 a.m. in Sanctuary

The daily drumbeat of apocalyptic climate crisis news can make us feel as if we are teetering on the edge of doom. How do we face such a dire cultural and ecological moment? How do we gather our courage? Come hear one UU’s reflections on the pursuit of joy, the power of song, and the transformative promise of creative improvisation.

Amy Hassinger is a singer, a member of our church, and an Assistant Professor of Creative Writing at the U of Illinois. She’s currently working on a new book about the climate apocalypse, jazz singing, and the pursuit of joy.

REV. FLORENCE CAPLOW
Sunday, November 24 at 10:15 a.m. in Sanctuary

What is enough? How do we know? As we prepare to enter the holiday season, so filled with abundance (and over-abundance) of every kind for some of us, and for others, yearning and wishfulness for such abundance, what is to be learned from the voluntary simplicity movements, as well as modern understanding of the power of mindfulness for bringing compassionate attention to these areas of our lives? The Choir will be singing during this service!

TRANSGENDER DAY OF REMEMBRANCE

On November 20th, the transgender community and allies come together to honor those in the transgender community who died this past year due to violence.

Gwendolyn Ann Smith, a founder of the Transgender Day of Remembrance states "Transgender Day of Remembrance seeks to highlight the losses we face due to anti-transgender bigotry and violence. I am no stranger to the need to fight for our rights, and the right to simply exist is first and foremost. With so many seeking to erase transgender people -- sometimes in the most brutal ways possible -- it is vitally important that those we lose are remembered, and that we continue to fight for justice."
