ST. BRENDAN THE NAVIGATOR
Pursuant of Article IV, Section 1, of the Bylaws notice is hereby given that the Annual Meeting of the Members of St. Brendan the Navigator will be held on Sunday, July 29, 2018, at 11:15 a.m. to conduct the following business:
1. To elect a Senior Warden for one year
2. To elect a Junior Warden for one year
3. To elect a Clerk for one year
4. To elect a Treasurer for one year
5. To elect one member to the Vestry to serve a three-year term
6. To elect one member to the Vestry to serve a one-year term
7. To elect Diocesan Convention Delegates and Alternates
8. To review and discuss the June 24th Parish Forum Survey findings.

The Way of Love

SING PRAISES TO THE LORD !
With a church building of our own and an excellent musician and organist, David Friedell, as a member of our congregation, all St. Brendan's needed was a organ to fulfill our patron saint's prayer, "Tune my spirit to the music of heaven."
Our organ story begins when David Friedell found a Moller organ for sale in Richmond, VA. It was 2010. He communicated the possibility of a purchase to the congregation including Lynn Verhey, a lover of music. Lynn offered to finance the purchase, and David set out to buy and transport the instrument to Deer Isle.
Organs do not come "ready made in one piece." Moving the console up to the balcony was an engineering feat worthy of the best. Then positioning and installing the many pipes would not have been possible without David's expertise - this wasn't his first nor his last organ installation.
Today, thanks to Lynn and David and with our Moller organ in place, our current organist-musician, Connie Mayo, sends forth music and hymns, songs of joy and praise for the St. Brendan's congregation and to God's glory.

Tenth Sunday after Pentecost:
Today we begin a five-week period in which the gospel readings each Sunday are from John and are focused on Jesus' feeding 5,000 people with five loaves and two fish, the response of the disciples and the crowds, and Jesus' discourse on himself as the bread of life. It is from the apostolic memory of this event and the Gospel of John's exposition of its meaning that the early Church began to develop its understanding of the meaning of the Eucharist. Note that Jesus performed the Eucharistic actions with the loaves and fish; he took, he blessed, he broke, and he gave.
In a story strikingly similar to the feeding of the 5,000, the prophet Elisha shows God's generosity when a crowd is fed from a seemingly insufficient supply of food. Throughout the sacred story, God's care for us is described in miracles of feeding.
In today's reading from Ephesians, the writer prays that the people may be strengthened by God's Spirit so that Christ may dwell in them and that we may find ourselves living in God and rejoicing in God's power working through us.
We are met by God in the Eucharist. Our baptismal state is renewed. We remember what God has done for us in Christ. We remember who we are. We are filled once again with the Spirit. We are fed in the mysteries of Christ's Body and Blood. We are reconstituted as God's People.

We pray for the victims of the violence of armed conflicts around the world. We pray for those made refugees by the violence of armed conflicts. We pray for the victims of terrorist attacks everywhere.
We pray for all who suffer the effects of domestic violence and the violence
of bullying in our schools.
We pray for all peacemakers, and all those who work for justice.
We pray for all those serving in the armed forces of our country, remembering, especially, Craig, Chris, Graham, and Caleb.
We pray for all who govern, and we pray for the concerns of our local community, remembering, especially, our children, our young people, and our isolated elderly.
We pray for Justin, Archbishop of Canterbury; Suheil, Bishop of Jerusalem; Michael, our Presiding Bishop; Steve, our Bishop; for the members of our vestry; and for all our members, whose ministries are varied and far-reaching.
In the Diocesan Cycle of Prayer, we pray for
the summer chapel congregations of All Saints by-the-Sea, Bailey Island and All Saints, Orr's Island. For seafarers and those who make their living from the earth and from the sea.
In the Anglican
Cycle of Prayer, we pray for
Province of Rwanda.
On the Island and Peninsula,
we pray for Deer Isle/Sunset Congregational Church.
