Annual Catholic Appeal
Only $9,856 to go!

We are wrapping up the 2018 Annual Catholic Appeal. We have received pledges/gifts from  247  households  for a total of  $90,499 !  We have just over 1000 households in our Parish.  If each one of the remaining households gave just a little we could make our goal  of  $100,355 easily!
It's not too late for you to give!
 
If you haven't already done so, won't you please consider making a gift this year? No gift is too small. If you're unsure what to give, please consider a gift of $1 a day or $365 or more.

Seeking Donations for the Youth Migrant Mission!
A group of St. John parish Middleschoolers is going to the Skagit Valley for a week of service and fellowship in August.  Please consider donating an item to the Migrant Workers and the local food bank.  We are looking for: canned food or other non-perishable food items, formula, diapers, wipes, crayons, pens, pencils, math or reading workbooks for learning at home, flash cards, stuffed animals, work gloves, socks, and underwear (any age and gender).  Please bring your donations to 10:30 mass on August 12 OR to the parish office any work day before August 17.    Thank you!

It's time to register for First Communion Preparation. Forms are available in the vestibule of the church and on our website (Click here).
 
We begin with a prayer service on Monday, September 24th, at 7 pm in the church.

The children's nursery is OPEN this summer!  For children from 8 months to 3 years old:  During 10:30 mass, in Egan Hall, Jennifer Marquez (a long-time parishioner and care-giver at St. John school daycare) will take care of your child while you attend mass.  Let the children play while you pray!
 
High School Week of Service and Fun!  August 6-10
Grow your heart, have some fun, get some service hours under your belt! A group of high schoolers will volunteer in the mornings (St. Vincent de Paul, Mary's Place, Northwest Harvest, WestSide Baby) and have fun in the afternoons. Middle School Mission trip to the Skagit Valley!  August 19-24
There are a few spots left for this wonderful opportunity for middle-schoolers (including kids who just graduated and will be freshmen next year).  Your child will learn what service and community is all about.  Highly recommended!

Walk the Journey With US:
Small Group Ministers Needed for Youth Ministry!
N Seattle Catholic Youth is looking for Catholic role models who love Jesus and like teens!
Research shows that to promote a life-long Catholic Faith, teens need to be able to identify 5 adults who have intentionally walked with them on their Faith journey. We are looking to foster those relationships in a small group setting and we need you!
 
One of my first Prayer Nuggets, back in April 2016, was about Bob Goff.  "Bob Goff is a lawyer who lives in San Diego and works in Seattle.  He does volunteer legal work in Uganda, freeing children who've been imprisoned for years without ever having been tried on their charges.  He's a thoroughly unconventional fellow, who is completely convinced that Jesus acts in the world through ordinary people performing incredible services motivated by love.  (Not a bad description of a saint.)  Look up Bob's TED talk on "Being Secretly Incredible" ( https://youtu.be/3Bb7vJINYFc ).
 
If you enjoy Bob's TED talk, you'll want to read his book, Love Does.  There's only one brief section in the book that's explicitly about prayer.  In it, Bob laments his inability to get God to speak to him even one paragraph, one sentence, one word.  He jokes about wanting to buy just a vowel.  But then he explains how he thinks God communicates with him non-verbally."

Well, Bob has a new book out, Everybody Always.  Here's a bit from the dedication page, to give you the flavor.  "I've spent my whole life trying to make my faith easy.  The truth is, it's not.  From what I've been reading, if we do it right, it will actually kill all the earlier versions of us.  What I'm trying to do now is make my faith simple.  This book is dedicated to everyone who has helped my friends and me make faith increasingly simple.  These people haven't tried to save up love like they're going to need it later; they know we're rivers, not reservoirs.  It's also a really long thank you note to everyone who has ever done something nice for Sweet Maria, for one of my kids, or someone they love.  When you've done it for them, you've done it for me.  I know God feels the same way."
