August 2018 Exhibit
The Washington County Arts Council presents “Jonathan & Jan Heath: Joyful Reflections on Life—Paintings & Prints” as its August 2018 exhibit with an opening reception on Thursday, August 2, 2018 from 5 pm to 7 pm.
Jan Heath has been making prints for over 40 years, developing printmaking techniques by experimentation and innovation. Her woodcuts, linocuts and monoprints are hand pulled, signed and numbered.
Jonathan Heath is a self-taught painter; his work in watercolor, oil and acrylic has evolved over the years into what he considers a "relaxed realism" in both style and content. Although serious about painting, his various themes explore the humor in everyday life.

The Maryland Theatre Expansion Project - Hagerstown, Maryland
Decorative Light Fixture
The Maryland Theatre seeks an artist to create a permanent indoor light fixture to be installed on the top floor event space within the expansion of the historic theatre. Work should be completed or well underway by Winter 2019. The total budget for the work is to be determined with artist input. The call is open to all artists living within a 100-mile radius of The Maryland Theatre. This artist call is presented in partnership with the Washington County Arts Council.

FRIENDS OF THE DOLEMAN BLACK HERITAGE MUSEUM PRESENTS ITS ANNUAL CHOCOLATE GARDEN TEA AND LUNCHEON WITH SPECIAL GUEST CECEILA SUMMERS AUTHOR OF “WE’RE CROSSIN’ OVER ONE BY ONE”
The Tea and Luncheon is a fundraiser for the Doleman Black Heritage Museum (DBHM) which is a nonprofit 501 c 3 located at 540 N. Locust Street, Hagerstown, MD. Friends of DBHM invites you to come out in support of our Annual Chocolate Garden Tea and Luncheon. This year the event will celebrate the consciousness, love, and power of women making a difference in the community.
The special guest is dynamic new author, Cecelia Summers of “We’re Crossin’ Over One By One” is riveting tale of the Brooks Family of Front Royal, Virginia and their family secret that changed the course of U.S. history. Cecelia became aware that one of her ancestors was freed before the Emancipation Proclamation. She speculated as to why he continued to reside in the slave state of Virginia. And, after further genealogical research, she wrote her first novel; WE’RE CROSSIN’ OVER ONE BY ONE, the evocative saga of her fictitious ancestor’s incredible story.
The Friends of the Doleman Black Heritage Museum invite you to come out and enjoy an afternoon of great fun traveling through history. As in the past there will be raffles, a hat parade, door prize, food and entertainment.

The Washington County Playhouse Dinner Theater
and Children's Theater presents
Jason Robert Brown's The Last Five Years
The romantic musical is the fourth production of the theater’s 34th season.
From Jason Robert Brown (Bridges of Madison County, Parade, Songs for A New World), comes an emotionally powerful and intimate musical about two New Yorkers in their twenties who fall in and out of love over the course of five years, the show’s unconventional structure consists of Cathy, the woman, telling her story backwards while Jamie, the man, tells his story chronologically; the two characters only meet once, at their wedding in the middle of the show.
The show is preceded by dinner featuring a salad bar, buffet, and dessert. There is a full cash bar available. Beverages and gratuity are not included.
Performances are held at The Playhouse on Friday and Saturday evenings at 6pm from July 13 to August 11, there is one Sunday matinee at 1 pm on August 12.

Maryland Traditions Heritage Awards!
Maryland Traditions is the folklife program of the Maryland State Arts Council. We are a team working to identify, document, support, and present living cultural traditions - or folklife - in Maryland.
Since 2007, the Maryland Traditions Heritage Awards have been presented to a Maryland person, place, and tradition that epitomize the state’s folklife.
We invite you to nominate a Maryland person, place, or tradition
that should be recognized with a Maryland Traditions Heritage Award!
Please submit the nomination form via email to either of the Heritage Awards staff members listed below or mail the nomination form to Maryland Traditions at 175 W. Ostend St., Suite E, Baltimore, Maryland, 21230.

Howards Arts and Frames presents “Pouring workshop”
Pouring is a ton of fun and is a really simple way of creating beautiful and unique artwork for your home or as a gift. In this workshop you will learn several different techniques in pouring, including how to pour with acrylic paint, acrylic ink and alcohol inks. The workshop includes 3 Ampersand brand boards for each person and at the end of the two-hour workshop you will have three awesome pieces of art to take home. No need to bring anything, everything will be provided for you.

Big Cork Vineyard is celebrating all things British this summer. With the recent win at the London Wine Competition, taking a silver medal for our 2015 Nebbiolo, it seems fitting to celebrate the only way the vineyard knows how – BIG.
Join Big Cork for the BIG British Invasion as they bring 1964 The Tribute band to the vineyard for a special evening filled with music and fireworks from 6:30 – 10:00 pm.
Tickets go on sale June 1 at 11:00 am at Ticketmaster.com. Gates open at 6:30 pm for general admission seating. VIP ticket holders get advanced entry at 6:00 pm. The band performs at 7:30 pm.

Robinwood Players present
"Spamalot"
Hagerstown Community College’s Robinwood Players will present Monty Python’s Tony Award-winning musical, “Spamalot,” on August 3, 4, and 5, in the Kepler Theater on HCC’s main campus.
Show times are 8 p.m. on Friday, August 3 and Saturday, August 4, with a matinee performance on Sunday, August 5 at 2:30 p.m. The show is rated PG 13. Ticket prices range from $4 to $14, but HCC students, faculty, and staff can attend for free with a valid HCC ID. To purchase tickets online, visit

ARTIST APPLICATION TO ARTIST IN RESIDENCE
AND VISITING PERFORMER ROSTERS NOW OPEN!
Artists who live in Maryland are invited to apply to the Artist in Residence or Visiting Performer Rosters. The artists on this roster specialize in harnessing the arts as tools for learning and are available to lead hands-on, intensive arts workshops in Maryland schools (Artists in Residence) or assemblies with two workshops (Visiting Performers).
Artists in Residence may apply in performing arts, play-writing, poetry, and visual arts. Visiting Performers may apply in music, dance, puppetry, and theater.
MSAC accepts applications for the rosters every two years.
Eligibility
Individual Artists who apply to the AiE program must be Maryland residents, eighteenyears of age or older, must have established residence in maryland at least six months prior to the September 14, 2018 deadline, and must continue to be residents while they serve in the AiE program. Undergraduate/graduate students are not eligible.
Performing Companies that apply to the AiE program must be located in the State of Maryland and must continue to be located in Maryland while they serve in the State of Maryland while they serve in the AiE Program. Members of the company who are undergraduate/graduate students may not be part of the application.
All AiE artists are subject to ongoing review and evaluation.
