In Remembrance
This week, we learned of the death of Bennett Jenson, MD, who was a pathologist and immunologist at Georgetown from 1980 to 2000. During his time here, Jenson recruited Dick Schlegel, MD, PhD, and, together with Shin-Je Ghim, they researched human papillomavirus (HPV). The three are co-inventors of the technology that led to the HPV vaccine. Schlegel penned this tribute to his longtime collaborator and friend.

Press Releases

Georgetown experts weigh in on the decision of the World Health Organization Emergency Committee to declare the 2019-nCoV acute respiratory disease outbreak that began in Wuhan, China, a Public Health Emergency of International Concern (PHEIC).

The World Health Organization should facilitate a multidisciplinary committee to develop a “global action plan” to help bring the 2019-nCoV outbreak under control, say three Georgetown University global health security and law experts.

Georgetown global health security and legal experts disagreed with the World Health Organization Emergency Committee’s decision to decline to declare the novel coronavirus (2019-nCoV) outbreak a Public Health Emergency of International Concern (PHEIC).

Georgetown global health and security experts reacted to the World Health Organization Director-General’s delay in a decision on whether or not to declare the novel coronavirus (2019-nCoV) outbreak a Public Health Emergency of International Concern.

Georgetown University global health experts say the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s decision to screen airline passengers arriving from central China for a new virus creates many challenges.
