"New Plants for the Spring" with Janet Carson

What a combination! New plants for the Spring and Janet Carson.  Janet has been a delightful and trusted source of garden knowledge for decades throughout Arkansas. Many have never met her in person and yet consider her a friend. Listen to Janet introduce new plants available for the Spring.

Janet graduated from the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville in May 1980 and joined the Arkansas Cooperative Extension Service one month later.  She was the first full-time female agricultural agent in Arkansas.  Janet soon found herself at home, answering garden questions during a radio call-in program.  This was the beginning of a long career in radio, television, newspaper, and magazine.  As Janet performed her many duties as an extension agent, she recognized there was a need beyond the capacity the Extension service could provide.  To fill the gap, Janet introduced a volunteer training program, Master Gardener, as a pilot project in 1986.  The Arkansas Master Garden program went on to become a highly successful cornerstone throughout the state.  In addition to connecting with the public through the media, Janet traveled throughout the state, some years averaging over 25,000 miles.  Janet was the extension's 2017 Employee of the Year and has won numerous awards during her career. She has written two books, "In the Garden" and "Field to Feast." She is married with two grown children and three dogs.

Janet retired from her position with the University of Arkansas Extension Service in 2018 concluding 38 years of service. She began  a new blog in January 2019.
