Time to Grill? Think Safety First

The summer grilling season is here and many are enjoying wonderful meals prepared outdoors on their backyard grill.  Burgers, hot dogs and steaks are among grilling favorites. and cooking them to the correct level of doneness is critical.  The color of meat is NOT a good indicator of doneness, so a food thermometer should be kept close at hand.  Read more about food thermometers and other tips for safe grilling.

Another Critical Reason for Handwashing
We have heard a lot about the importance of handwashing in recent months and here is another critical reason why handwashing is so important.  According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), public health officials in multiple states are investigating a multistate outbreak of Salmonella  infections linked to contact with backyard poultry.  As of June, 465 people had been infected in 42 states, resulting in 86 hospitalizations.  More details along with tips for staying healthy are available at: https://www.cdc.gov/salmonella/backyardpoultry-05-20/index.html

Alzheimer's 101

I would like you to take a moment and think of all the people you know (or have heard about) with Alzheimer's disease. Most of us can name at least one, if not many more. Sadly, more than five million Americans are currently living with Alzheimer's, and that number is expected to rise as high as 16 million by the year 2050.
