Upcoming Events 

#WontBeErased: Care for Our Trans, Nonbinary, and Intersex Community

Recently, a proposal in regards to reviewing the definition of sex under Title IX has been submitted under the current administration. If passed, it will define sex as what is assigned at birth and thereby, excluding the transgender, nonbinary, and intersex community from the protection of federal law. 

A teach-in and rally below will hope to raise awareness about the issue to a wider public. Take a stand by joining these events.

SoCal T*Camp brings together transgender, genderqueer and gender-questioning college students for an intercampus retreat January 4-7, 2019. Both undergraduates and graduates who are currently enrolled are welcome to apply.

Coming Out Group

The Coming Out group is a place to meet and gain support while discussing your sexual and/or gender Identities in a confidential setting.  This group is for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, straight, or questioning folks who are coming out, considering coming out or may already be out.  Topics are determined by group participants and can include stress, fear, anxiety, loneliness, family/cultural issues, excitement and celebration with regard to coming out. The group is open to new members the first 3 meetings of each quarter and then closes to maintain safe space.

Native American Heritage Month Gallery

Come by to the Cross-Cultural Center to see our gallery for Native American Heritage Month. We will be featuring three indigenous artists: Mer Young, Jackie Fawn, and Tomahawk Greyeyes, who all center indigenous people within their art. They touch upon various topics including indigenous visibility and the fight for environmental justice. Their artwork will be up from October through December, so be sure to stop by!
 
Financially Savvy: Money Management Tips

Ask a Health Educator

Bria Hamlet is a Certified Health Promotion Specialist from the Health Promotion Services (HPS) department. Her focus areas include Alcohol and Other Drugs and Sexual Health. During her office hour, she will provide information about services available at Student Health Services (SHS), as well as upcoming wellness events and workshops. Bria also counsels students before they begin pre-exposure prophylaxis, or PrEP, for HIV infection prevention. She can answer questions about that process as well.

Young Advocates is a volunteer group of college students in San Diego County who work to prevent binge and underage drinking in the community using the latest research and evidence-based strategies in alcohol and other drug prevention. 

This is a great program for students to learn new skills, build their resumes and explore career opportunities. The position is also listed on UCSD's Handshake site as "Young Advocates Internship" ID #2061196.

QTPOC BAMF Reveal

UCSD's Queer and Trans People of Color (QTPOC) organization is opening up its peer mentorship application! 

QTPOC's Bonding and Mentorship/Femtorship (BAMF) Program seeks to create bonds and relationships between queer and trans people of color at UCSD to be resources to one another and support each other at this institution. As part of the BAMF Program, you would be connected with someone who shares the same interests as you to create a pairing that will benefit both mentor and mentee. 

BAMF Reveal will be on November 2 at the CCC Comunidad.

CGS Grad. Specialization Application

Rigorously interdisciplinary and forward thinking, UCSD's Critical Gender Studies program has spent decades educating and challenging undergraduates through the study of gender, sexuality, and racial formation. The graduate program encourages applications from graduate students in participating departments whose work takes up questions of gender.

Queer Time: A Recital
Nov. 5 | 5:00 - 6:00 PM | Conrad Prebys Experimental Theater (CPMC) 

One of our graduate students, Hillary Jean Young (Soprano) will be holding her recital at the Conrad Prebys Experiemental Theater in November. Her work is inspired by queer culture and gender politics.

This event has free admission and will be about 50 minutes long.

APSA's 25th Annual High School Conference
Nov. 11 | 10:00 AM - 8:00 PM | PC Ballroom East

UCSD's APSA (Asian & Pacific Islander Student Alliance) 25th Annual High School Conference will be bringing in high school students from under served communities throughout San Diego County to UCSD. On the day of the event, we will have a variety of workshops and tours to give students a glimpse of college life.

Get involved by volunteering, being a funcilitator, or leading a workshop (50 minutes long)
