Rob Schouten Gallery's Mid-Winter Group Show
February 1st - March 30th
Color & beauty to drive away the winter blues.
As we continue into the often rainy and dark days of winter, the gallery felt it was time to bring some fresh color and light to the equation.
The talented artists have responded by bringing in some of their most exquisite original pieces, which the gallery is delighted to display.
Included in the month's exhibit are handmade jewelry, fine sculptures in bronze, stone, wood and steel, original paintings in a variety of styles and mediums, and some extraordinary fine art glass including handblown, sculpted and fused glass. You'll also find well-crafted woodwork, ceramics and fiber art, as well as witty assemblages and a wide array of other beautiful art objects sure to bring delight.
Come enjoy the Opening Reception on Saturday, February 1st from 5 to 7 p.m. in conjunction with Langley's First Saturday Art Walk. Many of the gallery artists will be in attendance, and light refreshments will be served.
Rob Schouten Gallery, a premier showcase for Whidbey Island and Northwest artists, is located at 101 Anthes Avenue, Langley WA at the corner of First and Anthes.
Gallery hours: Weekends 10 - 6, Weekdays 11 - 5.

Marianne Borozny
Marianne Borozny has explored the natural and the created landscape for nearly thirty years. Her work shows that she easily recognizes the beauty and idiosyncrasies in those landscapes. Marianne's aim is always to isolate the essence of the scene: the shapes, form, patterns, light, and texture. Her greatest muse is Whidbey Island, but she also creates works in the Southwest and New England.

Garry Oak Gallery Welcomes New Member
Harold Hertlein
Garry Oak Gallery is pleased to announce that segmented wood turning artist, Harold Hertlein, has joined their membership!
Inspired by the patterns of the Southwest and Maria Martinez pottery, Harold creates turned wooden bowls, vases and plates that evoke the Southwest. He combines a variety of natural wood pieces with glue and then turns them on the lathe into pleasing and functional shapes. He finds inspiration as the personality of the wood and the pattern of the piece emerge through his process.

Island Bohemians February Open Studio
Alicia Maria Elliott is a working artist. Whether teaching movement, painting, singing or writing, MoonHouseStudio is her place to recharge and refill.
In this Open Studio, you are encouraged to bring a 1-3 sentence quote that sheds light on what it takes to be creative.
On February 8th, at 3:30, Alicia will facilitate a conversation and field questions about her work. Musical instruments are welcome.

Mike works in watercolor, acrylic, and oils. From 8 ft by 8 ft pen and ink drawings to quick plein air sketches, he is a master sketcher. He has also pursued more formal methods of expression with the use of acrylic and oil to paint landscapes.
As a resident of Whidbey Island, he is always looking fo
r material on this beautiful and scenic location. His style is quick, loose, and expressive with a unique use of light and color. His background as an AIC licensed architect and experience as an architectural illustrator has lent a command of composition and design to his work. He has illustrated hundreds of projects all over the world with pen, ink, watercolor, and colored pencil.

Agave Baroque: Son of a Bach
San Francisco's free-spirited Baroque band returns to the Pacific Northwest for a musical family reunion featuring virtuosic chamber works by Johann Sebastian Bach and his sons Wilhelm Friedemann, Carl Philipp Emmanuel, and Johann Christoph Friedrich, each taking the ideas learned from their father in unique and brilliant directions.

Visual Arts Grant
The Whidbey Island Arts Council Visual Arts Grant is designed to encourage professional artists by providing funds for needs such as research, documentation, equipment or materials, skills enhancement through workshops, or studio upgrades.
Applications are still being accepted for the Spring Visual Arts Grant. As of now, the top grant will be for $1000.
