Long Beach Transit was at the Long Beach Towne Center Walmart on Saturday, October 12 in support of the annual "Shop with a Cop" event. LBT partnered with the Long Beach Police Foundation, Long Beach Police Department, Long Beach Unified School District, Long Beach Junior Chamber of Commerce and Walmart to provide selected students an unforgettable shopping spree.
Over 85 Whittier Elementary students were given the unique opportunity to bond with their assigned local law enforcement shopping partner, create Halloween crafts, and play games. Upon arrival, the students were greeted by cheering police officers and Long Beach State Men’s Volleyball Team. After their enthusiastic welcome by the volunteers, the students were given shirts, other clothes, shoes, school supplies, as well as toys! A hot breakfast was also provided, courtesy of Norm's Restaurant.
Whittier Elementary Principal, Damon Jespersen shared, “This was an amazing opportunity for building positive relationships between our youngest scholars and LBPD within our community. We are grateful to everyone who made this happen and their generosity towards our students!"
