Family Connections
February/March 2020
ALL OREGON & SW WASHINGTON
Hello Candlelighters Families!
As many of you know, Candlelighters was founded back in 1977 by 5 families who were impacted by childhood cancer to support other families going through the same thing. Their vision evolved into the network of hospital programs, family activities, and our annual family camp that we enjoy today.
As we continue to grow our programs and welcome new families to Candlelighters, it's important to revisit the reason this all began - YOU. Families are our foundation, how we started, who we support, and who we are as a community. If you are a parent, sibling, or survivor that has been affected by cancer, and are interested in helping us build connections with other families, we invite you to get involved. We need your talents, insight and wisdom to steer the ship! If you are in a position to give back, here are some specific areas we could use your help.

Family Activities:
Do you have any fun skills/talents you would like to share?
Are you skilled in facilitating discussions?

In-Hospital Programs:
Help us provide support to our families staying at Doernbecher. We have opportunities to help with our bi-monthly dinners, managing the snack cart, or filling up the food pantry. (Requires 8-10 hours of initial hospital training)

Please email Lisa to lend a hand.

Parent/Caregiver Support Workshops
Surviving Cancer Competently

6- 7:30 pm
Third Floor Conference Room

This series of workshops is open to all families regardless of hospital where child is treated

We are looking forward to our next series of workshops with Dr. Marianne Kabour, designed to help caregivers learn how cancer is affecting their family and help reduce post traumatic stress that families can experience when facing a cancer diagnosis. During this workshop, you will build on understanding ways to think about cancer differently and help you use your strengths as an individual and as a family to cope. Dinner will be provided at each session.
