~ Principal's Perspective~

Dear Friends,
The days leading up to big field trips and events are so full of details, last minute adjustments and questions, I usually have some moments of wondering if they are worth it. Then we enter into the day and are swept up, fully there, making full use of all our senses, developing relationships through shared experiences (planned and surprising), and I quickly remember why we do what we do. ... We Need a Replacement Stove!
|
|
A note from Mrs. Heenan to the entire HCA family-
As many of you know, Mrs. Ravina cooks healthy recipes in the After School Program every day. By doing this, she teaches healthy habits and nutrition in the best way possible,
by doing it!
As part of the fourth-grade Food For Life curriculum, we cook our own healthy lunch every other Friday. We are learning about healthy food, the food groups, units of measurement, how to read a recipe, trying new foods, food safety, food preservation, and the
important life-skill
of cooking! We also often have electives that involve cooking or baking.
With all of this wonderful cooking happening here at HCA, our
stove
has become tired. We are down a large burner, and the temperature gauge for the oven tends to fluctuate. Sometimes it cooks too quickly and other times slow. If by any chance you are thinking about updating your stove,
please consider donating
your old one to us if it is in good condition. We are hoping to replace it this school year.
Thank you for your consideration,
Mrs. Heenan

After School has been observing nature in a few ways. One was our hike on the nature trail last week where we collected a variety of colorful leaves. We made leaf windows after they had been pressed and dried over the weekend. They are on the gym glass doors. Check out our artwork! We have also listened to a few songs about the season. A favorite is the Apple Picker's Reel. Another song entitled "When Fall Comes to New England" is rich in theme and poetry, and helps us to see the beauty of this season. We are also tasting the fall with dishes like: apple crisp and our own homemade "stone soup", using carrots from our garden and a few potatoes that we grew!!! Other recipes are coming along that will include pumpkins and squashes...like muffins and soup. The kids are sure to tell you if they like what they tried. Soon we'll be gearing up for the colder weather but we still hope to go outside and get lots of fresh air and sunshine, so don't forget to send gloves, hats and other warm clothes. Thanks to all the parents who trust us to keep their children healthy, safe, warm and loved! May God bless us all as we work toward our goals this season.

Hello, HCA Parents!
A 529 plan is a tax-advantaged plan designed to encourage savings for higher education. However, it can also be used to pay K-12 tuition expenses in private schools. That makes the
tuition tax free for the parents, which would save them over a thousand dollars per student per year. It would reduce their taxable income by the amount they put into the 529 plan.
The accounts would be set up under MEFA’s UFund, which is sponsored by state government and managed by Fidelity Investments.
Here is a link:
The above link talks about saving for college, but I verified that
the plan can be used to pay for tuition expenses for K-12. The same plan would also be used to save for college, which was the original intent.
I hope this helps many parents save a considerable amount of money.
Best regards,
Paul Ravina
