Dear Girl Scout Troop Leaders and Service Unit Volunteers,

We have finally made it to sunshine and warmer temperatures! I know many of you join me in celebrating this opportunity to get outside and begin making small steps toward a sense of normal again.

Recent updates have been made to the COVID-19 Guidance and Support space on our website that I want to call your attention to. These updates include relaxing some of the restrictions that have been in place for the last 6-12 months. After careful review of the most recent CDC guidance as well as local health official regulations, the following updates have been made:

  • Troops of all ages and program levels can begin overnight camping beginning May 1, 2021. There is no longer a restriction for Daisies and Brownies.

  • Building capacities at both Camp Prairie Schooner and Camp Tongawood will return to their normal size as of May 1. While we are no longer limiting capacity at 50%, masks will still be required indoors when members from different households are present. Additional guidance is provided regarding safety precautions for overnight stays.

  • In-home meetings will continue to be allowed with formal approval from GSKSMO via the current process in place. This includes allowing backyard and driveway meetings.

We know many of our girls are eager to begin planning or activate previously planned Girl Scout travel for the summer months. Unfortunately, we are unable to approve travel outside of Kansas and Missouri at this time based on clear recommendations from the CDC. It is our most sincere hope that we are able to relax travel restrictions by early summer – but we must continue to monitor the COVID activity and recommendations from health officials to do so. Please watch for a travel specific update by May 4.

I want to personally thank you again for your continued commitment to Girl Scouts. This has been an incredibly difficult time for all and I continue to be amazed at the flexibility, innovation and enthusiasm of our girls and dedicated volunteers.

Yours in Girl Scouting,

Carmen Gleason
