SFIC Extends Invitation to Participate in Vigils
Against Hate Tonight and Tomorrow

To our Beloved Community:

In a devastating act of anti-Semitic violence, fueled by the divisive political rhetoric plaguing our nation, an active shooter entered the Tree of Life Congregation in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, on the holy Jewish Sabbath day, and killed eleven defenseless souls at worship. As we continue to absorb the devastating news from Pittsburgh and send our prayers to all those impacted by this horrific tragedy, we feel that it is important to come together as community with our Jewish sisters and brothers, to demonstrate our solidarity and resilience and reject the normalization of violence against the Jewish community or any community in our country.

On behalf of Congregation Emanu-El and the greater Jewish community, the San Francisco Interfaith Council extends the invitation to gather tomorrow (Sunday, October 28, 2018) at 12:00 noon (and thereafter for those who are at worship) in the sanctuary (2 Lake Street, San Francisco), as we stand together as one community, against hate, to send prayers for comfort and peace to Pittsburgh and to reaffirm our commitment to building a very different future for our country.

Additionally, a community vigil being organized by Bend the Arc, is scheduled for this evening (Saturday, October 27, 2018) at 8:00 pm on the plaza in front of the Contemporary Jewish Museum (736 Mission Street).

It is our hope that coming together as one community will provide comfort and courage in these difficult times.
