Today we honor our neighbor, friend, and former Mayor Shelley Stanczyk. Mayor Stanczyk and her husband have lived in Palmetto Bay for over 40 years. They raised their three daughters Kelley, Sarah, and Katherine in Palmetto Bay where they all attended and graduated from our public schools. Mayor Stanczyk graduated from State University of New York (SUNY) Fredonia and received her master’s degree from the University of Miami. She has served as an administrator at Florida International University and the University of Miami, and is the owner of Antique Mall Y’All, a local Palmetto Bay retail store. She was elected to the Palmetto Bay Village Council in 2006 representing Seat 3 and then elected Mayor in 2010. She has a long history of leadership on advisory committees and boards across the county representing Palmetto Bay, Miami-Dade County School Board members and the superintendent. They include the South Dade Municipal Coalition; Economic Development Council board member; co-chair of Relay for Life and team captain; Palmetto Bay Business Association; ACNA; Ruth’s List Florida; Dade Partners; superintendent’s and school board member representative to Attendance Boundary Committee; PTA president; chair, vice chair and secretary of the Miami Palmetto Senior High School Feeder Pattern; FCAT Revision Committee; Council of Advisory Committees; Traffic/Safety Capital Project Chair; FEMMA, and a Girl Scout leader and recruiter. She has built relationships and earned respect from across many levels of government and the community. As a leader in public service, her priorities were to support residents’ issues--maintaining our tax rate low, building our reserve fund; improving public safety, ensure excellence in parks and programming, quality schools, accessibility and transparency in government, sustainable communities, and the security of our quality of life.
We salute you and thank you for your dedication, commitment, and contributions to our Palmetto Bay! You have always fought to protect this wonderful community and we are eternally grateful!
