THE END...OR A NEW BEGINNING?
Brandon Strausbaugh, PVI Manager

Wow! Can you believe how quickly this year is coming to an end?! In fact, it's not just the end of 2019, but it's also the end of a decade.

Naturally, at this time of year, we tend to reflect back on events and changes that took place. Personally, as a newlywed, it has been an amazing year. I'm so thankful for all the blessings and excited about what the future holds!

Insurance-wise, although it has been positive overall, many of you know this year has seen its challenges in the insurance industry. In fact, this has been the toughest year I have experienced since 2007. With 700 customers affected by changes made this year, PVI has really had to rise to the occasion to insure that our customers remain covered.

To that end, I am very pleased to report that none of our customers was left uninsured and I'm thankful to my team for everything they've done to make needed changes as seamlessly as possible! Together, we have not only survived, but thrived!

"PVI pledges to do everything we can to make your lives Safer, Simpler and more Secure" is not just a tagline for us; it's a way of life. Thank you for giving us the opportunity to prove that every single day of the year.

As we close one decade and begin another, we want to say t hank you for giving us the "gift" of your "presence" in our lives, and we look forward to our future journey together !

Merry Christmas and see  you next year!

PVI PROTECTION TEAM
"SAFETY TIP"

SHOPPING SAFETY

With all the crowds and distractions when shopping this time of year, it's particularly important to remember to protect your valuables.

In addition to zipping your purse and closing compartments, if you place your purse in your shopping cart, it's a good practice to wrap the "child restraint belts" around your purse straps and fasten for extra safety.

Those few seconds it takes could make all the difference!

"PRICELESS GIFTS"

When it comes to expressing our love at Christmastime, we all have different ways of showing it. From the small to the extravagant, from the homemade to the special ordered - thoughtfulness comes in different shapes and sizes, none more important than the other.

For many, jewelry is a popular choice. Although the thought that goes behind the purchase is priceless, the jewelry itself is not.

So if you find that Santa has left something sparkly under your tree this year, you'll want to keep in mind that expensive jewelry is not automatically covered by your homeowners insurance. To be sure, contact your insurance agent and verify that you are adequately covered, or increase your coverage if necessary.

Also, some insurance companies require reappraisals every three to five years for jewelry. With the increase in value of precious metals, in particular, jewelry that you have owned for some time could be at risk, if your coverage is not keeping up with its value. Again, your agent can assist you with your coverage needs.

Don't let the sparkle of your gift be tarnished by not having adequate insurance coverage in the event the jewelry is lost or stolen. Making sure you are adequately covered brings peace of mind, another priceless gift!

Merry
Christmas!

MERRY CHRISTMAS FROM OUR FAMILY TO YOURS!

"IT'S A WRAP!"
FOR
PVI'S SECOND ANNUAL "I'M THANKFUL" CAMPAIGN

Even though Brandon Strausbaugh isn't Santa Claus, he gets to feel a little like it, thanks to PVI sponsoring the "I'm Thankful" campaign to support the  Valley Center Community Aid Group. This is our second year, and it has been a privilege and a pleasure to have collected cash, checks and gift cards over the last two months to benefit those in need in our community!

Of course, we couldn't do it on our own! Thanks to the generosity of the Valley Center Real Estate Professionals Group (the "parent" organization of the non-profit VCCAG) and other community-minded businesses and individuals - together - we have been able to help our neighbors in need and spread a little Christmas cheer in our community.

Dave Bohorquez, VC Oil, and PVI's Phyllis Knight
We were pleased to highlight several local businesses in our last newsletter that had donated to the Campaign, and we would like to give one last shout out and a big "Thank you!" to  Dave Bohorquez Valley Center Oil, Corp , for his support!  His generous donation of gift certificates helped "fill up" our donation box  and "drive" our campaign to greater success!

It may be too late to make "Santa's Nice List" by making a donation to the "I'm Thankful" Campaign, but there's still time to make a tax-deductible donation before year-end. Just  tell them "Santa" sent you!

Thank you all for your support for our  neighbors in need!
THAT'S ALL WE "CAN" FOR 2019
Marie Waldron, Assemblymember, December CAN Meeting Guest Speaker

What a great CAN (Community Action Network) Meeting on December 19th! Thank you to all who came and participated, in particular our guest speaker, Marie Waldron, State Assemblymember.

Assemblymember Waldron, Minority Leader, provided a "behind-the-scenes" look at how things work in Sacramento, which was very enlightening. She also shared her commitment to issues of concern to our community (rural vs urban) and the committees on which she serves to  represent District 75.

Following Assemblymember Waldron's presentation and a brief Q & A, we heard monthly updates from our First Responders and other local representatives. Thank you to all for your excellent presentations!

Those presenting included:

Ron McCowan, VCPUSD Superintendent
Sgt. Russ Ryan, VC Sheriff's Substation
Officer Mark Latulippe, CHP
Mike Shore, VC Fire Marshal
Robert Reynolds, CAL Fire Battalion Chief
Gaby Olson, VC Municipal Water District
Darcy LaHaye, VC Parks & Rec
Bill Trok, VC Gives Thanks
Eric Jockinsen, VC Building Committee
Marquita Sanchez, VC Library
Robert Roque, Sen. Brian Jones' office
John Yeager, VC Community Aid Group
Marian Walters, VC Chamber of Commerce
Rita Martin, Senior Volunteer Patrol

Of course, kicking off the meeting was a delicious light breakfast from  Julie Stroh!

So much good stuff  at one time and in one placeThat's why the CAN meeting is...

"Your Monthly Community Connection"

And why PVI is pleased to sponsor them!

Also, thanks again to  Paradise Ridge Pet Clinic, Inc.  for being our Door Prize Sponsor! (Please see related story below.)

Congratulations to door prize winner Eric Jockinsen who won one of the Paradise Ridge Pet Clinic gift certificates!

Presenting the certificates was PVI's Brandon Strausbaugh.

Trisha Murrin was the other lucky door prize winner!

Trisha and her husband don't have any pets, so she graciously donated the certificate to the Valley Center Community Aid Group, to be used to help a pet in need.  Thank you Trisha for this generous donation!

This concludes the CAN meetings for 2019, but we already have some excellent speakers lined up for 2020! So be sure and reserve the third Thursday of the month at 8 am to join us at the VC Community Center to get connected, informed and involved in "your" community!

In the meantime, have a Merry Christmas, a Happy New Year and we look forward to seeing you on January 16th!

TWO PAWS UP FOR OUR DECEMBER DOOR PRIZE SPONSOR "PARADISE RIDGE PET CLINIC"

We are pleased to give a big shout out to Ellie Newcomb, DVM, and  Paradise Ridge Pet Clinic, Inc.  for being the Door Prize Sponsor for the  December 19th CAN (Community Action Network) Meeting ! A ttendees had the chance to win one of two gift certificates donated by Dr. Newcomb for selected services at her clinic, each certificate valued at $100!

Dr. Newcomb has called Valley Center home for more than 20 years, and during that time, her love for our community and the animals that also call it home, has continued to grow. She and her caring staff provide compassionate and quality veterinary services and treat your furry companions as if they were their own. They recognize and respect the deep bond between owners and their pets and their goal is to help that relationship thrive by keeping your pet healthy and playful.

So for those animals fortunate to receive their healthcare from Dr. Newcomb and her dedicated staff, each day is just another day in Paradise!

" SIXTY SECONDS OF SAFETY"
WITH VC FIRE CHIEF, JOE NAPIER

First of all, this marks the one-year anniversary of "Sixty Seconds of Safety" that we initiated with Valley Center Fire Chief Joe Napier to share important information with our community! Thank you Chief Napier for your timely and informative segments over the past year, and we look forward to many more to come!

This month's "Sixty Seconds of Safety" video "stems" from the season! Be sure and check it out!

Chief Napier and the  Valley Center Fire Protection District wish you and yours a very merry and safe Christmas season!

Also, featured below is a dramatic video from Travelers Insurance which demonstrates the importance of keeping your Christmas tree hydrated. Please click here or on the picture to view the video.

PVI'S SIGNATURE DRINK FOR DECEMBER IS "MINT" TO BE!
Christmas "Cheers" from Brandon Strausbaugh (right), and Ted Hackleman!

It's no "secret" that we like to play "Santa" at PVI. So in keeping with the season, we are pleased to offer one of the favorite flavors of the holidays as the Signature Drink of the Month for December - the  PVI Peppermint Patty!

We all know "that it is better to give than to receive," but with this special offer, you get the best of both!

HONORING OUR HEROES
"WREATHS ACROSS AMERICA" CEREMONY

Despite the overcast skies and slight drizzle, December 14th was a beautiful day in Valley Center. Obviously not because of the weather, but because of the Third Annual "Wreaths Across America" ceremony taking place at Valley Center Cemetery, which was sponsored by the Center of the Valley DAR.

Brandon Strausbaugh, who attended the ceremony last year, said it was a special honor again this year for him and his family to lay a wreath on the grave of his grandfather, Van Quackenbush. He said they were thankful for the opportunity to acknowledge and show their appreciation for his service to our country, as well as pay tribute to all our heroes. Brandon was joined by his mother, Ann Kunde (center), and her sister, Susan Metternich.

THERE'S NO TIME LIKE THE "PRESENT "
TO APPLY FOR THE PVI SCHOLARSHIP!
PVI's Diane Wick (left) and Phyllis Knight at the VCHS Local Scholarship Day.

PVI had the pleasure of participating in the 1st Annual Local Scholarship Day at Valley Center High School on December 5th! This event was a great opportunity for local businesses and organizations to come together in one place to share information about our respective scholarships with seniors.

Of course, PVI loved sharing information about our "Van Quackenbush 'Excellence in Journalism' Scholarship," which we premiered last year. Representing PVI today were  Phyllis Knight  and  Diane Wick , who really enjoyed talking with the students!

If your senior missed this event, PVI scholarship information and the application are available on our website.

The students were very interested in all the information provided, and we applaud their commitment in getting a jumpstart on their scholarship applications!

Adding to the fun was a raffle PVI held for two gift certificates to Spins Coffee Truck

Congratulations to the lucky raffle winners - Sarah Bowling and Blake Murders!

Also, it was fun spending time with other local scholarship representatives: (L-r) Eric Jockinsen, Optimist (and Miss VC Pageant); Therese Allen, Miss VC Pageant; Larry McKenzie and Suzie Durant, Valley Center Community Aid Group; and Christine Stolec, VCHS, who coordinated the event.

We have a lot of great businesses and organizations in our community that support our students, and our seniors are fortunate to have so many opportunities available to them! Students (and parents) may contact the Counseling office for more information.
SUPPORTING OUR COMMUNITY
WITH OUR PRESENTS AND OUR PRESENCE
PVI's Phyllis Knight (right) presents a sponsorship check to Kim Rocha,
with the Valley Center/Pauma Music Boosters, at the Christmas Concert.

At PVI, we love supporting our community, not just with our "presents" but with our presence!

That's why it's not only our pleasure to be a sponsor for the Valley Center/Pauma Music Boosters, but it's also a joy to attend the musical presentations, such as the "Valley Center Christmas Concert" at the Maxine Theater on December 16th.

The performances from the VCHS and VCMS students were outstanding! From  the singing, to the music, and even a little dancing thrown in, it was a highly entertaining evening! We are fortunate to have such talented and dedicated students and teachers! Kudos and thank you to them and the volunteers and other sponsors who make it all possible.

If you would like to help support the music program in Valley Center, please contact the Valley Center/Pauma Music Boosters.

If you missed the concert, you can check out a few videos we shared highlighting some of the performances on Valley Center Happenings.

SANTA'S HELPERS FOR "TOYS FOR TOTS"
Marian Walters, VC Chamber, helps Phyllis Knight, PVI collect the last of the toys.

PVI was pleased to support the  Valley Center Chamber of Commerce 's "Toys for Tots" campaign again this year! In addition to being a collection center, we were able to play Santa's helper by distributing and then collecting the donation boxes around town. The toys were delivered to Fallbrook Airpark on Saturday, December 14th, for the big "Toys for Tots" Collection Event they held.

Thank you to all who supported this campaign and helped to insure that Christmas is a little merrier for children in need! This was the best year for collections so far! Also, a  special thank you to those who served as toy drop-off locations in addition to PVI: VC Chamber of Commerce, VC Parks & Rec and VC Sports & Apparel!

A GOOD TIME AT ARMSTRONG'S BREAKFAST WITH SANTA?
IT'S IN THE BAG!
"Uncle" Santa (Trent Green) pictured with his nieces.

What a jolly time at  Armstrong Feed & Supply  on December 7th for Breakfast with Santa! Thank you to everyone at Armstrong's for this fun (and tasty!) annual event!

Also, a special thank you to Santa's helpers - members of the  Miss Valley Center Pageant  Court. (They are busy elves right now, helping out at so many Christmas-related events!)

Children aren't the only ones welcomed at Armstrong's Breakfast with Santa!

Pictured here with Santa are Roy & Phyllis Knight with their special family member, Noel. For more on Noel's story and her connection to Armstrong's, please click here
THANKFUL FOR LOCAL COMMUNITY-MINDED BUSINESSES
Brandon Strausbaugh presenting "a token of our appreciation" to Jack Bose,

Valley Center is fortunate to have such great local businesses!

In keeping with Thanksgiving, it was our pleasure to present some of these special businesses with a token of our appreciation for what they do and how they contribute to making our community a wonderful place to live!

As a small business our self, we understand the commitment that we all have to our community, and supporting each other is one of the things for which we are thankful! And, of course, we're also thankful for you - our customers and friends!

Pictured below are some of the other local businesses Brandon Strausbaugh found "at home" during his deliveries prior to Thanksgiving:

Steve and Trent Green,

VC GIVES THANKS AT NOVEMBER CAN MEETING
Pastor Bill Trok, November CAN Meeting Guest Speaker

Thank you to all who braved the chilly temperature and threat of rain to come out to the November CAN meeting! We had a good turnout and saw several new faces! It's always great to see everyone!

Thank you to  Bill Trok for sharing his vision for  VC Gives Thanks, which was held  at the Valley Center Community Center on November 24th. It was a special time of coming together as a community to celebrate the many things for which we are thankful! Thank you to all who contributed to making this a fun and successful event!

Bill Trok introduced
Joe (right) and Eddie (Edith) Queja as key planners and the inspiration for the
"VC Gives Thanks" event.

Congratulations to our door prize winners, Gina Protocollo and Sgt. Russ Ryan (VC Sheriff's Substation), who won El Rey Restaurant gift certificates!

Presenting the certificates was PVI's Brandon Strausbaugh.

Also, thank you to our First Responders and other community and legislative representatives for your timely updates!

Last but not least, thank you to Julie Stroh for serving up her delicious breakfast treats, and thank you to those who joined us for the meeting!

"SHINING STARS" AT THE NOVEMBER SUNDOWNER
Brandon Strausbaugh, PVI, congratulating Bahram and Judith Shadzi on Cosmic Solar's 10th anniversary.

It was a fun evening at VC Fire Station 1 on Thursday, November 21st, when the Valley Center Fire Protection District hosted the  Valley Center Chamber of Commerce  Sundowner.

Making the event extra special was celebrating the 10th anniversary of Cosmic Solar.

Congratulations Bahram and  Judith Shadzi  on this great accomplishmen t!

Judith decorated for the event, including a chocolate fountain with all the trimmings. They were joined by two lovely young ladies - their grand daughters, Ivy (5) and Olive (3).

Not only did Fire Station 1 host the event, the Firefighters and Fire Explorers (pictured) provided a delicious "station-cooked" Italian dinner. Thanks, guys, for your great hospitality!

Also, thank you to the Valley Center Chamber of Commerce for another great Sundowner!

A PICTURE IS WORTH A THOUSAND WORDS...

This is one of four separate rainbows photographed in Valley Center on November 29th, the day after Thanksgiving. That was a most unusual weather day, and not just because of the multiple rainbows! We also experienced rain, hail, snow (in the mountains) and sunshine...all in one day! In other words, it was a unique day in a unique setting.

This picture ran on Valley Center Happenings and was our most popular post of the month.  As we've mentioned before, PVI is pleased to sponsor VC Happenings  to help keep our community connected and informed. But there's another aspect that we love about doing VC Happenings and that's being able to highlight the beautiful and special area in which we live. Wouldn't you agree?
