Free Community Eye Screening For Children and Make and Take Crafts
Kidsight is part of a nationwide initiative of Lions Club International to help parents, childcare providers, and educators find and treat childrens vision problems. Starting as early as 6 months of age, children should have their vision checked. Vision screening is performed by Lions Club volunteers using the Welch Allyn Spot auto-refraction device which can help to detect vision issues in all age groups from infants to teenagers. Parents are proivided with a printout of eye screening results. more information can be found here:

PLANS OK'D FOR WESTVILLE MUSIC BOWL
October 17, The New Haven Independent, by Thomas Breen and Allan Appel- "New Haven's vacant tennis stadium is on track to become an outdoor music and comedy venue now that the team behind the College Street Music Hall has won approval - from both the City Plan Commission and, in a twist on history, Westville neighbors.
Those approvals, one formal, one not, came at two different public meetings Wednesday night, one in the community and one in City Hall.
Premier Facilities LLC President Keith Mahler and local attorney Steve Mednick presented plans at the meetings to convert the tennis stadium next to the Yale Bowl at 45 Yale Ave. into the Westville Music Bowl-a new outdoor concert and comedy venue that will host performances between May and September..." studio. From the ceiling, a book's innermost secrets have been reworked into a functional chandelier. Soft, huge lichens burst from the white walls, smaller ones winking out like bright stars. Sleek wire sculptures meet riotous, other-worldly canvases. In one, a spaceship shape takes off, neon blue as it leaves the ground and goes on to another universe.
This Narnia has become commonplace for Gambardella, a longtime New Havener who has been bridging art, eco-activism and social justice with a series of huge, bright lichens, sharp and witty pencil sculptures, and border-defying paintings. Now situated at

, she is preparing for a fall that includes
City-Wide Open Studios
, window installations in downtown New Haven, and her inaugural trip to the American arm of the
Art Basel
festival in Miami Beach, Florida.

THE GIANT PUPPET AND PEOPLE MAKING MAYHEM WORKSHOPS & PARADE
Every October, WVRA hosts a series of family-friendly GIANT Puppet-Making workshops and studio sessions in Westville Village. Participants' creative efforts culminate on the Sunday morning closest to Halloween when we embark on our GIANT Puppet & People-Making-Mayhem Parade!
We will have basic materials including glue, paint, brushes, and paper mache but we recommend you bring any extra cardboard, newspaper, other arts and crafts materials you want to implement in your puppet design.
NO REGISTRATION REQUIRED.

DOWSING FOR WATER AND LOST IN THE WOODS @KEHLER LIDDELL GALLERY
In her most recent collection of multimedia artworks - Dowsing for Water - Kate Henderson dives into the symbolism of water. The artist notes the themes that run through these works - "finding the source, sacred waters, feminine energies, life force and healing" - all inspired by the element of water, explaining: "Water is a symbol of spiritual journeys, diving deep into the unconscious. It is the source of all life or it can take it all away ... Water is our primal connection with Universal Wisdom."
Simultaneously, Roy Money presents the results of a spiritual journey of his own with Lost in the Woods.The artist states: "Photography is a kind of meditation for me, in which I welcome what is before me in an awareness of our shared space and time. ... Even inanimate objects like rocks have a life that is expressive of the elemental creativity of the cosmos." Created during a recent artist residency at Weir Farm, Money's images, he hopes, will "convey a sense of wholeness in what often seems like a fragmented world."
