Emergency Home Repair Assistance
FEMA Assistance - Garland individuals and business owners who sustained losses in the winter storm can now apply for assistance by registering online at DisasterAssistance.gov or by calling 800-621-3362 or 800-462-7585 TTY.

The City of Garland Building Inspection Department is waiving permit fees for work related to winter storm repairs. The department’s webpage contains a list of current plumbing contractors and other resources property owners might need.

Programs are available to assist income-eligible homeowners in Garland with emergency home repairs such as frozen pipes, HVAC repairs and electrical repairs.

Water Distribution to Continue Monday
Garland is known for its strong sense of community, which always comes through during difficult times. 

The City of Garland’s Library staff, in partnership with local churches, businesses, nonprofits and other volunteers, have been distributing bottled water since Friday. 

If you need bottled water, the drive-thru at Central Library, 625 Austin St., will be open again Monday, Feb. 22, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Water Bill Questions
Many customers will likely see an increase in their water consumption due to dripping faucets or leaks due to broken pipes.

Customers dealing with higher than normal bills due to broken pipes and dripping faucets can contact Customer Service to discuss possible credits. Be sure to save any receipts or photos related to repairs at the address. Contact Utility Customer Service at 972-205-2671 or CustServ@GarlandTX.gov.

Trash and Recycling Collection Resumes
All residential trash/recycling and bulky collections will resume normal routes Tuesday, Feb. 23. Commercial collections will resume Monday, Feb. 22.

Please do NOT put excess trash in the blue recycling bin. Excess trash can be bagged and placed on the curb. Excess recycling can be brought to the Recycling Center or held for your next recycling date. The Recycling Center and Transfer Station will reopen Monday, Feb. 22.
Register Now to Receive COVID-19 Vaccine
The Garland Health Department is registering individuals included in Phase 1A and Phase 1B for COVID-19 vaccinations as vaccine becomes available.

Updates will be posted to GarlandTX.gov/COVIDVaccine and to the City’s Twitter and Facebook pages.

Please note that you only need to register once for our waitlist. You may register with multiple providers. If you receive the vaccine through a different entity, please email GPH@GarlandTX.gov so we may move someone else up on our waitlist.
COVID-19 Updates
The Garland Health Department has received reports of 1,091 active cases out of 25,928 confirmed cases of coronavirus (COVID-19) in Garland residents since the beginning of the pandemic, as well as 239 deaths. The City will update its posted case numbers each afternoon.

Rescheduled City Council Meetings
Feb. 22 and 23
The Garland City Council Work Session will begin at 6 p.m. Monday, Feb. 22. Regular Meeting will begin at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 23. During these meetings Council will discuss the Capital Improvement Program. Council is scheduled to approve this year's Capital Improvement Program at the Feb. 23 Regular Meeting.

Plan Commission
Feb. 22
The Garland Plan Commission meets on the second and fourth Monday of each month at 7 p.m.

All upcoming Boards & Commissions meetings can be found on the Public Meetings calendar at GarlandTX.gov.

Due to COVID-19 public gathering restrictions, the meetings will be virtual. You can watch the meetings online. The virtual meeting link will be included in the individual meeting agenda. You may participate by telephone. Dial-in numbers will be posted with the virtual meeting information.

SKYWARN Storm Spotter Virtual Training: Tuesday, March 2
The 2021 severe weather season is around the corner. Are you prepared to recognize clues that suggest large hail, flash flooding or a possible tornado? The National Weather Service will host its free SKYWARN Storm Spotter Training at 6 p.m. Tuesday, March 2, in virtual format. This training is free but you must register in advance.
