The First Story - Construction
A new building is being constructed on HWY B for a local non-profit. The instructors and trainees creating this building are part of a program bringing workforce training to inmates in Sawyer County. The goal: to provide employable skills to individuals working to design a better future and not return to jail. The program is a partnership between several organizations both in and outside of Sawyer County, including the SCLCOEDC. It has been very well received.
Plans to Expand
The vision is to expand the program beyond Construction, to include training avenues for Hospitality, computer skills and more. The efforts to secure funding, trainers, and support organizations is underway.

If you would like more information on ways to contribute to this project, contact us at info@sclcoedc.com.

"I Choose Sawyer County" Video Attracting Attention Beyond Wisconsin
It's no secret that people who vacation here, decide to move here! They find out what we already know...you can live and chase your dream in the same place you find joy, wonder, excitement and fun!

To say the secret is out is becoming more and more of a truth. After the video released in January, it's circulation on social media has garnered the attention of local media as well as out-of-state news stations, inspiring a front-page newspaper story and nightly television news feature.

All this is great news for a proj ect, initiated in the fall of 2019 as way to address a workforce shortage in Sawyer County. The collaboration between the Hayward Area Chamber of Commerce , Hayward Lakes Visitors and Conventions Bureau and the SCLCOEDC includes the video, created by James Netz/Due North Digital, a Youtube Channel and a webpage dedicated to sharing the many selling points of Sawyer County.

Check out the website www.sclcoedc.com/choosesawyercounty to see how you can help further this project, including getting your business, organization or service listed (along with a link to your website). Board Member Spotlight
Bruce Paulsen
A large segment of our Sawyer county residents were not born here. They moved here. Among those, we have a wonderfully large share of individuals who have adopted their new community and blessed it with not only their work skills, but also their selfless contribution to any number of governmental and civic organizations. Bruce Paulsen is exactly this type of resident. He is a workhorse for the SCLCOEDC, dedicating countless volunteer hours to an ever expanding number of SCLCOEDC initiatives including Placemaking, broadband expansion, and new business support. He is our Treasurer, as well. Now, if you think that is where the list of hats Bruce wears ends... think again!
Bruce is a founding member of the Sawyer County/Lac Courte Oreilles Economic Development Corporation. In addition, he is on the Sawyer County Board of Supervisors.
Bruce is a Green Bay boy who left his home state to work in Minneapolis for a CPA firm, Cargill and before retiring as The Carlson Companies Corporate Controller. As soon as he was able, he moved back home to Wisconsin. He and his lovely wife Margi have been full-time Hayward residents since 1999.

Sawyer County Board of Supervisors and the Lac Courte Oreilles Band of Lake Superior Chippewa Tribal Governing Board continue their support of the SCLCOEDC

Thank You to C. Hadlai Hull and Jump River Electric Cooperative for your recent donations. Without the generosity of individuals and organizations like these we would not be able to continue the services and programs being currently generated through SCLCOEDC.
We are grateful.
If you would like to support the SCLCOEDC with a financial contribution, please email Bruce Paulsen: blpaulsen@centurylink.net . Remember that we are now a 501(c)3, non-profit. As such, your contributions may be tax-deductible.
