#BeKind21 Events at Bel and Bunna's Books
On Monday, August 20 from 3 PM – 6 PM, we'll kick off #BeKind21 with kid friendly kindness activities - we are writing thank you cards to the firemen who are bravely & unselfishly battling the awful fires in our State. We will be talking about what we can do be to be kinder in our local community. We will be looking at our 21 day plan of daily kindness actions. Oh - and we will be offering some books that focus on Kindness and Mindfulness at a discount. On Wednesday, August 29th, the Born This Way Foundation team will be in town, and we'll be hosting a Kindness Storytime from 3 PM - 4 PM. Contra Costa County District Attorney’s Office Community Academy
District Attorney Diana Becton has announced that the Contra Costa County District Attorney’s Office will launch a Community Academy this September. The goal of the academy will be to strengthen community relations and provide residents a better understanding of our criminal justice system. The academy is free with no cost open to residents who live or work in Contra Costa County. Individuals must complete an application and background check when they apply.

Twenty-first Annual California Independent Film Festival
The California Independent Film Festival will be celebrating its 21st festival in Lamorinda from August 24 to August 30, at the Rheem and Orinda Theatres. The Opening Night celebration kicks off at the Rheem Theatre on Friday, August 24 at 6:00PM with an international style reception followed by the World Premiere of the Austrian film, The Salzburg Story. This is the first time in CAIFF’s history that the opening film is international and a world premiere. The Director, Alexander Peter Lercher and three cast members will be in attendance. Over the weekend (August 25 and 26) the film festival will be at the Orinda Theatre with several short programs, documentaries, feature films, iron filmmaker contest, composer contest and celebrity guest tributes, including Leonard Maltin, Mindy Sterling and Doug Jones. The remaining four days (August 27 - 30) the festival returns to its home at the Rheem Theatre with feature films, a Bay Area showcase and a comedy shorts program from Canada. CAIFF has something for everyone in films from around the world. This year 13 countries are represented. Tickets are available online at
