"As a lamp is not lighted by itself, so the human soul does not give light to itself but calls out to God: 'You indeed, O Lord, give light to my lamp.' ” ~ St. Augustine
Imagine a world without salt and light. Both are essential for life to exist. The historical significance of salt in the world cannot be overstated – its existence has influenced trade, politics, and religion for at least 8,000 years.   When left too long on a shelf, salt loses its potency and becomes useless. When kept under a basket, light loses its ability to illuminate. Christ entered into human history for the purpose of salvation (from the root word ‘salt’), being salt and light for souls dying and blinded because of sin. In this Sunday’s gospel , He calls his disciples, that’s us, to be salt and light for the world by sharing in His mission of bringing glory to God the Father by working for the salvation of others. As you prepare for Mass this weekend, reflect on specific things you can say or do today/tomorrow/this week to be salt and light to someone else?
In addition to our regular Mass schedule this weekend, Children's Liturgy will be held at the 9:30 AM Mass on Sunday . We welcome our youngest parishioners, age 4-6, to St. Rita Hall during the Mass to hear the Word of God in a way that is easier and more fun for them to understand. Those wishing to join will be called forward - parents are welcome to join - and they will return after the homily.

Introducing Faith, Fun, & Fellowship - a new ministry open to all members of St. Augustine Parish. Our focus is bringing parishioners together in support of assorted events and activities. We endeavor to promote and provide opportunities that foster faith and fellowship while having fun as a parish community.
The Faith, Fun, & Fellowship ministry meets the second Tuesday of every month from 7-8 pm. Please join us this Tuesday, February 11th at 7 pm in the parish Friary, where we'll talk about a handful of upcoming events and what we can do to support their success. Questions?? Please contact Sr. Madonna at srmadonna@staugustineparish.org .
During flu season, the reception of Holy Communion from the chalice, the Most Precious Blood, is suspended for the duration of the flu season effective immediately. You are reminded that the exchange of peace during Mass can and should be made without touching one another, that is, with a smile, nod and verbal greeting.
