Teacher Feature- Dr. Stephen Bain
By: Jack Miller

This week’s Teacher Feature is on Dr. Stephen Bain, one of our amazing humanities teachers at North Phoenix Prep. Dr. Bain carries three degrees: a B.A. in Humanities and Biblical Studies, a Master of Humanities, and a Ph.D. in Humane Letters, both with a specialization in philosophy. In the course of his education, he attended three different colleges: Point University (formerly Atlanta Christian College), the University of Dallas, and Faulkner University. Dr. Bain has taught for nearly ten years, teaching from fifth grade to upper class college students. This year, he is teaching freshman and sophomore Humane Letters, as well as senior Rhetoric and Public Speaking. He and his family are originally from Georgia, and three of his four children attend North Phoenix Prep and Archway. When asked his favorite thing about our school, he responded, “the curriculum,” and elaborated that he loves the reading of the great works. Dr. Bain is in his second hear of teaching at our school, and is very loved by his students. It is teachers like him that make our school as great as it is.

Great Hearted seniors have been given a friendship task. Each senior has been asked to complete a packet in which they write a letter, poem, quotes, etc. to each of their classmates. The Class of 2020 has been asked to submit their completed packet on or before we return from Winter Break on Thursday, January 9, 2020 . Please encourage your son/daughter to take part in this Great Heart tradition that requires everyone’s participation.

Angel Tree Tradition Continues

Gladiator families,

Six years ago, when my sister was in eighth grade, she started a program at North
Phoenix Prep that we called Angel Tree. Since the start, I have been learning the ropes from herand have taken over the program this year. Every year we “adopt” a class (or now around 50 students) from Palomino Intermediate Elementary School. This means we agree to get gifts for the students in the class who may otherwise not get gifts for the holiday season. One way we accomplish this goal is by setting up a homeroom challenge. You can help us by participating in it! Students from our school bring in coins and dollar bills to their homeroom classes to raise money which helps to buy holiday gifts, school supplies, and non perishable snacks for students at Palomino. Both the middle school and high school homeroom that brings in the most money wins a donut party.
This is the sixth year of the program and it wouldn’t be possible without your generosity. Another important way you can help is by stopping by the office to “adopt” a student from Palomino. You can check out a tag and agree to purchase a gift for a child this holiday season. We suggest the gifts remains around $20 and please have them returned to NPX unwrapped with the tag attached. By adopting a child and encouraging your student to participate in our homeroom challenge you will help us have another successful year! The homeroom challenge runs from December 2nd to December 13th. We ask that all gifts (with their tags) are returned by December 13th.

Thank you so much and happy holidays!
Sincerely,

Sofija Brnovich

Student Pick-up Reminder
Parents and guardians we need your help to combat traffic congestion. Please know that there is no need for Prep parents to enter the inside lane until 3:25 as the bell does not ring until that time and your student will need time to leave their classroom, go to their locker, and gather their belongings. Archway parents will receive priority before 3:25 pm. If you are in the traffic lane prior to 3:25 and do not have an Archway student (indicated by a pick-up placard) then you may be asked to drive around. Thank you for your cooperation.
