Canon Logue Contributes to Book
In the new book
Acts to Action
, Canon Frank Logue joins other contributors in gleaning lessons from a deep dive into the eighth chapter of the Acts of the Apostles to learn from the earliest efforts of the Church to spread the faith.
The biblical book of Acts details how the early disciples overcame the challenges of spreading the gospel in the midst of failing institutions, theological differences, and widespread uncertainty. In
Acts to Action
, contributors from across the Episcopal Church discuss how these lessons from Christ's earliest followers apply to the mission Jesus still gives us today: to be his witnesses in our churches and neighborhoods and to the ends of the earth. Canon Logue wrote the chapters on Proclamation and Getting to Know the Neighborhood. Framed by reflections from church leaders Jennifer Baskerville-Burrows and Gay Clark Jennings, the book provides encouragement and practical suggestions to help individuals and groups move from
Acts to Action
. Published by Forward Movement, this new book would be an excellent Bible study for congregations, Christian education, or small groups, but it's also a great read just on your own.
Frank and Victoria Logue also contributed the Holy Week reflections for Forward Movement's Lenten meditations,
Are We There Yet. That book was awarded the Polly Bond Award for Theological Reflection.

The Rev. Al Crumpton accepts call to Our Savior
 The Rev. Al Crumpton has accepted a call to serve as the Rector of the Church of Our Savior, Martinez. For the past five years, Crumpton served as the Rector of King of Peace, Kingsland. From 2011-2013,
Crumpton served as an assistant at St. Mark's, Brunswick. A native of Americus, Georgia, he graduated from Georgia Southwestern University in 1994 with a B.A. in Business Administration. His work prior to seminary included a decade with Habitat for Humanity International. He married Val in 2006. The two attended the School of Theology at Sewanee together, graduating in 2011--Al with an Master's in Divinity and Val with a Masters in Theology. He has one grown son, Quint, by a previous marriage. Pictured above are the Rev. Al and Val Crumpton.

Three Days to Deepen Your Faith
 Cursillo, a short course in Christianity which equips Christians for leadership and service to change the world for Christ, will be offered
October 11-14 at Honey Creek Conference Center.
Cursillo includes a three-day weekend that begins on Thursday evening and concludes on Sunday. The Cursillo weekend is not a retreat, but an opportunity to meet clergy and laity seeking to strengthen their faith. It provides an environment to experience the reality of the gift of God's love through shared prayer, individual meditation, worship, study, fellowship, laughter, tears, and unconditional love.
Cursillo offers:
- an opportunity to grow in faith and spirituality
- a deeper understanding of the teachings of Jesus and how we can serve Him and experience of living and sharing with others in a loving and caring Christian community and realizing that this can be extended into our own environment
- a continuing community that gives support and encouragement to help Christians carry out their Baptismal Vows.
Those who have attended Cursillo
know how much someone can learn and grow during a relatively brief retreat. Please prayerfully consider who the Holy Spirit is leading you to sponsor for this October weekend.

Happening
A Life-Changing Weekend for Grades 10-12
Led by teens for teens, Happening is a weekend of discovery. The next Happening will be #101 at Honey Creek September 14-16, 2018, and is open to those in grades 10 - 12.
Katie Grant from Good Shepherd, Augusta, is the Rector for the upcoming weekend. Grant is pictured below with Happening #100 Rector, Graham Hummel.
 During a Happening weekend, participants worship, play, sing, and talk about God's place in their lives. They make new friends who share similar concerns and questions - a reassuring discovery. A teenager who acts as "rector" leads the weekend with the help of a staff consisting mostly of young people. Some staff members give challenging talks, after which there's time for discussion and activity. Together, the staff and participants share in an exploration of the impact of Christian faith in their daily lives. Happeners who attend a weekend for their first time are called "Candidates." To be a Candidate, one must:
- Have completed the 9th grade and have not begun college.

Each year St. John and St. Mark provides a breakfast for the teachers of their Partner in Excellence School, Radium Springs Elementary School (RSES) as they return to the classrooms to prepare for the year. The parish collects supplies and gives them to teachers as door prizes during the breakfast, and the teachers are encouraged to leave prayer requests for the church to offer at the Morning Office. St. John and St. Mark works with the school throughout the year to help provide the kids and families in the neighborhood with fun activities, and the Rev. Johnny Tuttle serves RSES on their Local School Governance Board.

The congregation of Holy Comforter, Martinez, offers prayers for the Superintendent for Schools in Columbia County, Dr. Sandra Carraway, and her husband Mike. Dr. Carraway, preached at Holy Comforter on Sunday. The liturgy also included a blessing of the backpacks.

In our diocesan cycle of prayer, we pray for our congregation on Jekyll Island, St. Richard of Chichester. We also pray for our ecumenical partners on the island, especially Jekyll Island Methodist Church and St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church. In our companion diocese of the Dominican Republic, we pray for St. Bartholomew (
San Bartolomé) in San Cristóbal.
August 12-18
In our diocesan cycle of prayer, we pray for our congregation in Sandersville, Grace Church. We also pray for our ecumenical partners in Sandersville, especially St. William Catholic Church. In our companion diocese of the Dominican Republic, we pray for the congregations in San Francisco de Macorís, especially The Good Samartian (
El Buen Samaritano) and Jesus the Nazarene (
Jesús Nazareno).
