Greetings Daves Avenue Families,
“Service Before Self” was the theme of a school-wide assembly this morning. Currently, we are lucky to be partnered with three community organizations that provide our Cool Cats an opportunity to support those less fortunate during this holiday season.
|
|
Opportunity 1 (District Wide Service Project)-
Second Harvest Food Bank delivered several barrels which are located in our school entryway. Students will be sent home with Second Harvest Food bags where they can collect non-perishable donations such as: meals in cans, tuna, canned meats, cereal, oatmeal, pasta, peanut butter, canned fruits and vegetables. Please no glass jars for safety purposes.
Opportunity 2 (Grade Level Service Project)-
All 4th Grade Cool Cats are participating in a service project in partnership with Life Moves which is a nonprofit organization committed to ending the cycle of homelessness in San Mateo and Santa Clara counties. Bake sales will take place on December 10th and December 12th in the front of school and also on the Poppy side. Hope to see you there!
Opportunity 3
(School Wide Service Project)-
Daves Avenue has partnered with Downtown Streets Team to help achieve our Student Council Community Goal of creating 600 hygiene kits. Helping ALL students better understand how compassion is empathy in action is our priority. We believe that through our words, items, and actions, we can make a difference. Mr. Pablo, Case Manager from Downtown Streets, was our guest speaker today who gently informed students of the realities of homelessness. During his presentation, our student’s minds and hearts were captured by the daily realities of those less fortunate. All items donated must be new and unused. On December 18th, all classes will be helping to assemble these kits. This is a meaningful way for you and your child to contribute to those in our community.

Please use the grade-level links below to sign up to donate items and/or volunteer to help assemble the Downtown Streets hygiene kits:

Thank you in advance for your support. Together, I know that our mantra of #DavesDelivers comprised of words, actions, and items can have a profound impact.
Grateful,
Principal, Daves Avenue Elementary School

SR2S TIP #3
: Texting while walking can be as dangerous and texting while driving.
Texting while walking is distracting! It makes it harder to judge traffic gaps, it makes you less aware of your surroundings and the people around you, and you’re more likely to make poor decisions while doing so.
