Community celebrates groundbreaking of Mangini Ranch Elementary
More than 100 residents, future students, community leaders, members of #TeamFCUSD - and Folsom's Mangini family - celebrated the groundbreaking of Mangini Ranch Elementary School on Wednesday, Feb. 12.

When completed, Mangini Ranch Elementary School will serve hundreds of students and families living in the new Folsom Ranch neighborhood south of Highway 50.

Mangini Ranch Elementary is scheduled to open for the 2021-22 school year and will feature an innovative, two-story single building design with state-of-the-art collaborative spaces for students in grades K-5.

It will be the first of five new elementary schools, one middle school and one high school planned for Folsom Ranch in the years to come.

Black History Month: Snapshots from Gallardo and Cordova High
During Black History Month, we'll highlight examples of teachers, students, and school communities working to expand understanding of African American experiences, voices, and contributions - histories that deserve celebration far beyond four weeks in February.

Have you seen our recent posts on social media? Our latest snapshots include:
  • Gallardo Elementary first-grade teacher Christina Cook kicked off the month with a lesson on Ruby Bridges, the first African American student to desegregate an all-white school in Louisiana in 1960. Students used the opportunity to think about how they define "bravery."
  • At Cordova High School, the student-led Black Student Union kicked off the month by hosting a round-table talk with Sonia Lewis, a prominent local activist with TLC The Liberation Collective for Black Sacramento.
Periodically during the month of February, we'll post snapshots to our social media pages of creative teaching and learning that engages students around the impacts of African Americans throughout U.S. history.
Be sure to follow us on Facebook , Twitter , and Instagram to stay connected to these stories.

Parent voices: Folsom Cordova families learn how to explore school stats
More than 50 Folsom Cordova parents and caregivers gathered together at Rancho Cordova Elementary  on a sunny Saturday morning on Feb. 8 to learn about the California School Dashboard and how they can look up information about their schools' performance.
The dashboard is an online platform that allows the public to see a wide range of school performance data including test scores, graduation rates, absenteeism, suspension rates, college and career readiness, and more. Information can also be broken down into student groups such as ethnicity, socioeconomic status, and more.
The Saturday event, one in a series of Parent Summit the District holds throughout the year, was also a listening session in which families shared their experiences, ideas, and concerns. Their feedback will be used as the District updates its three-year plan for supporting its highest-need students.
