Board of Elections
August 7, 2018

Today's speaker, Kirsten Ross, Director of the Coshocton County Board of Elections, talked about handicapped accessible voting challenges, Senate Bill 135 for updates and funding to replace the current voting machines, and more.

Accessible machines allowing for privacy in the voting process for visually and physically impaired voters has been a challenge, as individuals are unable to vote with privacy, requiring an individual to assist.  Changes are moving forward to provide  impaired individuals will the ability to vote independently and with privacy. An absentee ballot will be requested, an email will be received by the individual, within the email there will be a link to the ballot allowing the individual to vote using their own adaptive devices without any assistance. Once the ballot is complete, it can be printed and mailed.

Senate Bill 135 relates to voting equipment funding. New voting equipment will be coming in the future, but not in time to replace the current 13 year old machines before the November election. The Board of Elections is currently working on vendor pricing for the replacement of all current voting machines.

There is a need for poll workers as the board is experiencing attrition and expects more workers to drop off  when the new voter equipment is purchased.  The anticipated further reduction is expected due to the need to learn the new equipment.  If you are interested in becoming a poll worker contact Kirsten Ross at 740-622-1117.    https://www.coshoctoncounty.net/boe/
