The FC Richmond Futures Program
FC Richmond is thrilled to share some important program updates and enhancements for our Fall 2021 season. Our U9 and U10 travel teams will now be called the “Futures” program. Like the rest of our travel teams, the Girls are Mystx and Boys are the Magic. This program is replacing our previous PDP program.
Players will be selected at our spring 2021 tryouts (April/May) for the upcoming “Magic Futures” and “Mystx Futures” teams. These introductory level travel teams will participate locally in the Advanced Development Soccer League (ADSL) primarily on Saturdays, play in the Club Champions League (CCL) Scrimmage Fests, and have entry into multiple local tournaments.
The Futures program will be overseen by Kelly Grant. Kelly is former player at Stoneybrook University, is currently the Assistant Coach at the University of Richmond and has been a member of the FC Richmond coaching staff for over three years. She will bring her experiences, creativity, and leadership skills to each of our players and families. Our Futures coaching staff is made up of highly qualified, energetic, and motivational leaders who will teach proper techniques, develop individual skills, introduce simple team tactics, and share their passion for the game.
The Futures program will be a cohesive addition to our existing Classic and Elite program offerings and provide our youngest players the foundation and pathway to continue to grow in the game and within FC Richmond. The Futures program is an excellent introduction to travel soccer, and first step from recreational to travel soccer, for those young players who want to learn and be challenged.
Recreational Coaches Training Clinic
FC Richmond staff members held the Recreational Coaches' Clinic for the coaches working in the U7-U12 age groups on March 9th. Trip Ellis, Executive Director, hosted the "in-person" portion of the clinic with the coaches we had in person. Trip Dunville, Assistant Director of Coaching, and recreational soccer staff members, Elizabeth West and Dustin Reynolds, helped to coordinate the "live stream" portion of the clinic in order for coaches to watch virtually from home. Players were broken into small groups for technical work and games. If you missed the clinic, you can watch it HERE

Partnership with RVA Athletes
FC Richmond is excited to announce a new partnership with RVA Athletes and founder, Glenn Pfluger! Glenn is a sports performance and injury prevention specialist whose driving force is to “be better than the competition”. And that’s what he wants for the athletes he works with as well. Glenn has a unique approach to sports performance that encompasses total body evaluation first, then he designs custom programs for each athlete to focus on their specific results.

We are excited to partner with Glenn to offer our travel soccer athletes FC Richmond Sports Performance (FCRSP) training. FC Richmond travel athletes will be offered a special price ONLY available to our club and represents the lowest rate for sports performance training. The FCRSP package will offer three months of twice weekly training. Players will schedule their own training times around their schedules. Players can train individually, or can organize teammates to sign up and train together.

In addition to offering FCSP at the RVA Athlete’s facility, Glenn will be coming to FC Richmond and conducting pre-season performance training for all our Elite team athletes in late summer with older travel teams, and late winter for our younger teams. This will give our Elite teams an edge heading into their regular season training.

Trip Ellis, FC Richmond Director of Coaching, said of the new partnership, "We have had many players over the years benefit from working with Glenn. FC Richmond is very excited to announce our exclusive sports performance partnership with RVA Athletes. This relationship will offer FC Richmond players soccer specific athletic performance, physical fitness, and injury prevention training at an unbeatable price. This is a winning relationship for everyone and we look forward to seeing the impact in our players performance on the field".

Glenn concurs, “I am thrilled to officially create this partnership with FC Richmond. I have already worked with many FCR athletes and have seen the impact performance training has had on their games. I’m excited to bring this resource to the entire travel program!”

To register for FC Richmond Sports Performance training, visit our exclusive page on the RVA Athlete’s registration site HERE. Training prices for NEW clients include the cost of the individual fitness assessment. Training prices for RENEWALS (any FC Richmond athlete who has previously worked with Glenn and has already completed the assessment) reflect the ongoing FC Richmond price.

If you have any questions please contact Kris South at travel@fcrichmond.com or Glenn Pfluger at glenn@rvaathletes.com

Staff Spotlight
As the spring season kicks off, FC Richmond is pleased to announce the addition of Mac Phillips as the club’s Assistant Director of Classic Teams and Goalkeeper Director. Mac began his new role with the club on March 1st. The club is excited for Mac to begin work with all of our goalkeepers and bring a new level of instruction, education, and commitment to the players within our club who play in between the posts. He will also be assisting Ian Stowe, Director of Classic Teams, with the day-to-day and weekly tasks on and off the field to help improve our players’ experiences in the Classic travel program.

“Mac has always demonstrated a strong worth ethic and high level of commitment to his players. We’re very happy to bring someone of his character and quality into our technical coaching team. I’m confident our players, families, and coaching staff will feel his impact right away,” said Trip Ellis, FC Richmond’s Executive Director/Director of Coaching.

"Beyond the Game" Player of the Month
Maggie Bothwell has been a longtime member of the FC Richmond community, and is currently playing for the U16 Mystx Elite team. Recently Maggie and her family put together care packages for Homeward, a local homeless shelter. They filled these bags with snacks, cleansing products, and words of encouragement. These bags are then given to people to use when they aren’t at the shelter. Maggie says, “It was fun to know that we were doing something that will mean a lot to other people.” Maggie is usually a regular volunteer at the Chesterfield Food Bank, but because of COVID she was unable to volunteer this year. Therefore, Maggie wanted to find a way she could still impact her community. Maggie Bothwell went “Beyond the Game” by putting the needs of others first during these challenging times!

Sports Equipment & School Supply Drive
Did you know that Africa has the highest rate of education exclusion and the lowest literacy rate in the world? An organization called LEAD Africa is working to change this by building schooling academies in Africa centered around sports and leadership. This spring you have the opportunity to give back to African communities through a sports equipment and school supplies drive! Max Elim and Zach Overstreet, both members of the U18/19 Magic team, will be helping to run the drive along with the Junior Board. All used sports equipment and school supplies are accepted and will go directly to support LEAD Africa. There will be a dropoff day at the James River High School Stadium on March 20th from 10am-1pm. Additionally, collection bins will be placed at Huguenot practices and games in late March and April.
