April 13, 2021 Update on Vaccine Rollout
Neighbors,

Today we received two updates from the Fairfax County Health Department to share with our Hunter Mill District residents. If you have questions, you can contact my office by email at huntermill@fairfaxcounty.gov.

Johnson & Johnson Vaccine
The county will not be administering Johnson & Johnson (J&J) vaccines until further notice following the recommendations of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration and the Virginia Department of Health to pause all J&J vaccinations because of a potentially very rare side effect.

No county vaccine clinics or appointments will be affected.

While this action limits the amount of available vaccine, its impact on the Fairfax Health District is minimal since the Fairfax County Health Department and its partners have primarily been using Pfizer vaccine for the past several months. A small amount of J&J vaccine remaining from last week and allocated for this week will be substituted with Pfizer and Moderna vaccines to avoid any cancellations at our Health Department sites.

The Health Department urges individuals who have received the J&J vaccine and who develop severe headache, abdominal pain, leg pain or shortness of breath within three weeks after vaccination to contact their health care provider.

New Call Center System
A new call center system is being implemented to better meet the needs of our residents during the upcoming transition to Phase 2 and beyond. During the implementation, wait times for callers may be longer than expected. The Health Department anticipates that this will be a short-term inconvenience and your patience is appreciated.

As a reminder, the quickest way to register for vaccine is to use the online registration formTo see if you are eligible for vaccine, visit the county's COVID-19 vaccine eligibility page.

Please note that more information is forthcoming this week on the county's transition to Phase 2 when everyone 16 years old and older will be eligible to register to get the vaccine. I will provide that information to you when it is available.

I also encourage you to take a moment to review the county's vaccine data dashboard to see the tremendous progress that is being made in getting shots into arms.

Respectfully,
Walter
