Around the Square                                       November  2019

As we enjoy our beautifully lit and festive town this holiday season, here at Historic Kennett Square we're happy to bring you an update on some of the great events happening this weekend, including the Holiday Light Parade and Tree Lighting and Small Business Saturday.

As we look forward to all of the celebrations ahead, we're also thankful for all the programs and events that have helped to make Kennett Square such a great place to live, work, and play over this past year:

We've enjoyed another great year of community-building and local-loving programs including perennial favorites like Third Thursdays on State Street , Kennett Brewfest and Winterfest , and the 20th anniversary season of The Kennett Square Farmers Market  .

Historic Kennett Square is proud to be the 501 (c)(3) nonprofit organization that's helped to put Kennett Square on the map-and we love seeing people walking through town with our beautiful new map  highlighting our diverse and growing neighborhoods.

For over 20 years, Historic Kennett Square has been at the heart of the transformation and revitalization of our historic, diverse, and vibrant small town, and we're delighted that Philadelphia magazine recently named Kennett Square the Best Suburban Shopping Destination 2019  . We congratulate all of our hardworking and talented local business owners on this collective and collaborative honor.

Our first-ever KSQ Restaurant Week in February was a great success, as was our Fall Restaurant Week in October. We also had the pleasure of welcoming new businesses to town including Braeloch Brewing, Café de Thai, Byrsa Bistro, Evergreen Café & Bakery, Liberty Place Pub, Travelers Eats & Sweets, Rusty Nelson Studio, Stephanie Ryan, Union Street Gallery, Blue 52 Barber Shop, The Body Protocol, and Kennett Classic, as well as the expansion and reopening of Portabellos, Clean Slate Goods, Marché, and Macaluso Books. The annual Memorial Day Parade was bigger and better than ever, and we extended our Evening of the Arts to a well-received Weekend of the Arts.  We hosted the Clover Market twice, adding a Fall market, and we enjoyed celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month, Cinco de Mayo, and Day of the Dead with Casa Guanajuato. Last but not least, we're looking forward to another season of holiday festivities including Tinsel on the Town, the Holiday Light Parade, and the Holiday Village Market.

And we're thankful to all of you, who have attended Historic Kennett Square events and supported our local small business owners, artists, growers, and producers. As we head into the holiday season and look forward to celebrating with those who come home for the holidays, we're working hard to keep the town vibrant and welcoming. We want to thank all of the businesses and residents who have already joined the campaign to Light up the Square for the holidays and the dark winter nights ahead, and we invite you to join in this community effort by making a donation here.

A very Happy Thanksgiving to you and yours. See you around the Square!

Beginning a week earlier this year, A Longwood Christmas allows for even more holiday cheer.

This holiday season they celebrate the many shapes of the season with a display that's both nostalgic and inventive.
Inspired by the contours of traditional holiday favorites like ribbons and colorful confectionary, nature's unique figures from pine cones to snowflakes, and shapes found in their grand Conservatory such as crystal chandelier teardrops, their holiday display takes the form of sheer magic. Outdoors, illuminated trees, glowing orbs, a shimmering tunnel of lights, and captivating light displays choreographed to holiday music set the tone for Christmas at Longwood as you've never seen it before.

Gather round ... it's shaping up to be  A Longwood Christmas to remember.
