I hope this finds your October off to a great start. In looking over our "weekly success indicators" we enjoyed several bright spots to open the new month:

1) Teacher attendance was at 98% last week.

2) Tardies to class dropped -46% during the first five days of the month . . . a major improvement!

3) Last Thursday's tutoring count was 150 students, nearly 2X the count from two weeks prior.

4) Our administrative team logged 136 classroom visits of both a formal and informal type last week.

5) 100% of our morning buses arrived on time last week (95% in the afternoon).

Please remember that this coming Wednesday, October 10th will be a regular-length school day (no early release) and that Monday, October 15th is a student holiday.

Have a wonderful week!

In Knights Honor,

Stephanie R. Jackson, M. Ed.
Principal, Lake Nona Middle School

Knight Sports
A fine soccer season comes to a close . . . well done Knights!!

Sometimes, in the game of sports we get wrapped up in the wins and losses columns. However, we must realize it's not just about playing the game you love, but it's about the everlasting friendships made, the memories, and the lessons learned throughout every season. Our boys' soccer season came to an end Wednesday night after a very tough loss to Freedom Middle School.

Through the entire game, and a five minute overtime, the score was tied at 0-0. We went on to penalty kicks to determine the winner, but we came up short, only making 2 penalty kicks to their 4. The Panthers win 1-0 in PK's moving on to the final four. Even though it was an extremely hard loss for our Knights, the highlight of the season was in the last minutes of the game when CJ Gilmore was running ahead of the ball and says to his teammate Asael Sterwart, "Pasame la bola!" His teammates on the bench all looked at each other, repeated what he said and immediately starting laughing. I must admit I almost fell to the ground when I heard our English speaker so fluently speaking Spanish during such an intense part of the game. Needless to say, Sterwart understood him and actually passed him the ball. You have to love it when sports brings different cultures together and brings out the best in us. We are extremely proud of our gentlemen and want to thank Coach Jones and Coach Cruz for an amazing season!

The Lady Knights soccer season came to an end last week against a very tough and experienced Maitland team. Our young ladies ended their season with a winning record, runner-up in the division, and a chance at competing in playoffs. Above all, these girls showed a lot of improvement from where they started this season, showing that hard work and dedication truly does pay off. We are extremely proud of them and Coach Stoeckigt for all of their hard work.

Thank you,

Knight Soul: October 11-12

We are looking forward to supporting the 6th grade students in their friendships, school life and social-emotional development this year. A workshop titled, Soul Shoppe, is fun, and interactive, weaving life skills and tools through stories and activities that mimic common "real-life" challenges and experiences. This workshop will work on self-awareness, social awareness and positive relationship skills. The students will learn how assumptions that we make can hurt others and expand their friendships. Students will attend through their social studies classes.

* The workshop for 6th grade students is sponsored by Nemours - Children's Health System.
