Robert Parker Coffin Road Project Delayed  Until After Strawberry Fest
Photo Credit: Historic Downtown Long Grove Business Association.

The upcoming Robert Parker Coffin (RPC) Road project, previously set to begin in mid-June (which would have temporarily moved Strawberry Fest to Stempel parking lot), will be pushed back roughly a week due to unanticipated delays with the construction schedule. This means Strawberry Fest, which is set for June 21-23, 2019, will occur at its normal location in the heart of downtown Long Grove on RPC Road and Old McHenry Road. The RPC Road project is now tentatively scheduled to begin the last week in June.

Design plans for the RPC Road project have been finalized, and the Village will be requesting bids from contractors. A contract will be awarded by early June.  The RPC project is expected to last through the end of November and, once completed, will provide aesthetic improvements and attractive streetscapes that mirror those planned for Old McHenry Road in the downtown area. These improvements will include new landscaping, street lights, benches, and ADA accessible sidewalks. The RPC Bridge's wood cover will also be replaced as part of this project, along with structural improvements for the Bridge. Water and storm sewer drainage improvements will be incorporated into this project, in addition to extension of the public watermain to promote additional economic development in the downtown. For more information, call Village Hall at 847-634-9440 .
Old McHenry Road Construction Project  End is Nearing
In recent weeks, installation of the stone veneer for the wall in front of the Long Grove Visitor's Center was completed. Crews also began the installation of street poles and lighting along the sidewalk areas. This week, the contractor resumed grading and cleanup work around the sidewalks to prepare the area for restoration and landscaping. Construction crews also began prepping driveways for asphalt paving.  Once completed, the project will include a variety of upgrades to Old McHenry Road, including new ADA accessible sidewalks, landscaping, period street lighting, benches, and a traffic signal at Old McHenry Road and Robert Parker Coffin Road.  The project is expected to be completed by the end of this summer. For real-time updates and to sign up for the Old McHenry Road project's mailing list, click here

Traffic Impacts: Motorists are advised to watch for workers and flaggers due to daily lane closures. Trucks will also coming in and out of the jobsite, so please remain alert at all times.
Traffic Delays Continue at
Route 53 and Old Hicks Road
Traffic delays persist as road crews on Old Hicks and Route 53 continue utility relocation work within the State of Illinois Right of Way (ROW) between Lake Cook Road and Old McHenry Road. Motorists are advised to choose alternative routes during non-peak hours such as Lake Cook Road and Arlington Heights Road, to bypass these delays. Once this work is completed, the Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) plans to begin its road project in this area in June, which is expected to run through the end of the construction season (weather-dependent, but normally at the end of November).I ntermittent lane closures and traffic delays are expected to continue; lane closures will not be permitted during peak hours of 6:00-8:30 a.m. and 4:30-6:00 p.m. More information on this project can be found  here . For questions, call IDOT Project Manager Jonathan Shumacher at  847-705-4260  or email Jonathan.Schumacher@illinois.gov
