Greetings Friends of Tattered Cover,
If you're an audiobook listener or a coffee drinker,
READ THIS!
AudioBooks
. For those of you who don't already know, Tattered Cover partners with Libro.FM, an independent provider of digital audio books. They have a tremendous selection, competitive prices, and an app that is every bit as good as (some, like me, might say better than) Audible or iTunes.
When you shop via
Libro.FM
, you're supporting Tattered Cover, and keeping money in our community, which will definitely make you feel really good. We promise.
Simply go to
TatteredCover.com
, search for a book, and when you're on that book's product page, look for the "Get the Digital Audiobook" link directly under the image of the jacket cover. To get you started, here is one recommendation from each of us:
KRISTEN:
The Hate U Give
by Angie Thomas -- This bestselling, powerful young adult novel about social justice and one teen girl's effort to fight for what is right, will leave you breathless. The narration by Bahni Turpin is hands down the best I've ever heard. This is such an important book it should be required reading for life in general. Or listening. Definitely listening.
Coffee
. We like to remind our customers from time to time that Tattered Cover owns and operates coffee shops in both our Colfax Avenue and Lower Downtown locations. We have a full menu of hot and cold coffee and tea drinks -- including Nitro Cold Brew, now at
both
locations -- and a robust menu of pastries, snacks, and light fare. We source most of our food and ingredients locally, and we have the
best
staff of baristas anywhere in the city.
We're also super excited to welcome our new coffee shop manager, Talia, who comes to us from Dean & DeLuca Honolulu, which we just think is cool. Be sure to say hi to Talia and our wonderful team when you're next there.
Mention this email, and they'll take $1 off any barista-made drink, now through August 31!
Happy August everyone, and watch your email for a BIG announcement coming soon. As always, we look forward to seeing you in the store.
Len and Kristen

August Gift Item of the Month: Art N' Wordz Posters
"Help us rescue old dictionary pages and check the insanely cool original art from Art N' Words. These kitchy and fun pieces are all printed directly on to recovered dictionary pages, some of them almost 200 years old. It's an amazing way to give new life to pages whose bindings have been corrupted by time and tragedy. This also means that every single page is a unique print as each design is rarely printed upon the same words. Check them out at our Colfax Avenue, Historic LoDo, or Aspen Grove locations!" --

Kids' V.I.B. pick...
by Kathryn Ormsbee
"What a delightful feel-good book! I loved that it was about artists, friends, growing up, changes, being okay and not okay. I learned a lot about asexuality, which was described very well through the eyes of the main character, Tash. The dynamic of the three main friends was great. They were complete characters, with problems beyond their romantic lives. Also, I loved the contemporary aspect of it, with social media, the web series, and all of the tech. It was as if it was set in the real world! Sometimes YA stories isolate their characters from the technology we all use and I liked that it was central to this story. I highly recommend it." --

On shelves 8/7...
by Anne Youngson
"Anne Youngson brilliantly crafts
Meet me at the Museum
in a series of emails and letters. It took me about 2 pages to fall in love with Youngson's main characters, Kristian and Tina, who begin a unique relationship centered around their mutual interest in The Tollund Man, an Iron Age archeological find housed in the Silkeborg Museum. Kristian and Tina's letters take on a life of their own, and, I think other readers will also find themselves caught up in the unfolding relationship which begins to slowly take shape. Kristen and Tina trust and respect each other even though each brings a different reality to their friendship . And so, when they eventually find mutuality, each fosters in the other a new way of looking at their own life, which then makes it possible to them to make changes neither thought possible. It's a triumphant story made more powerful, I think, because it comes from a woman's perspective." --

On shelves 8/21
by Sandie Jones
"I always say that if a mystery thriller novel has the word 'woman' or 'girl' in the title then it's probably going to be really good! This book is the most frustrating thriller I've read since
The Woman in the Window
and I mean that in the best way possible. It starts off like a typical girl meets boy story. Emily falls in love in Adam and she is nervous to meet his mother, as anyone in a serious relationship might be. But something is a bit off with Adam. He has another woman in his life--Pammie, his mother. Pammie doesn't like Emily, but Adam doesn't believe it. The book follows Emily and Pammie's cat and mouse game and tensions between the 'happy couple' rise as Emily tries to get Adam to see what's really happening. Soon, Emily finds herself in the middle of a very sinister situation. If you have the urge to stay up all night, spend it reading this book. " --

by Anne Youngson
"One Calcutta night, a stranger tells another that he's half-werewolf. Alok, a college professor and recipient of this revelation, then listens as the stranger weaves a tale so immersive it's hallucinatory. Curious about the stranger and his claim---and wanting more of the high, Alok agrees to transcribe two sets of scrolls. A tale unfolds of predatory, two-souled shapeshifters---but it is also a deeply personal story---a story of outsiders, yearning, transformation, and survival. I was eager to read this because I have a soft spot for the ancient scroll/book schtick. It was unlike anything I expected and I loved it. It draws heavily on folklore and mythology (especially Indian), has memorable characters, incredibly inventive world-building, and one of the most sui generis approaches to shapeshifters that I have ever read. 'Werewolf' doesn't remotely cover what these creatures are (though the claim makes sense in context)." --

This month's #1...
by R.O. Kown
“R.O. Kwon’s debut knocked me sideways. The Incendiaries is a serious reckoning with the problem of fanaticism and the violence of blind devotion. The story of Will and Phoebe is told with an extraordinarily smart and soulful style. I was amazed at how perfectly Kwon’s spare language fit her novel’s expansive scope. A stunning portrait of what faith can do and undo, The Incendiaries will delight and disturb. But, most of all, it will impress.” --

New in paperback...
by Nate Blakeslee
"American Wolf uncovers the true legacy of the american wolf’s survival after reintroducing them into the Rockies in the wake of becoming nearly extinct in the 1920’s. The book focuses on renowned wolf, O-Six, who’s unlike any female wolf Yellowstone park ranger, Rick McIntyre, has ever seen. Many of O-Six’s challenges for survival are directly linked to the larger issue between those who are against the reintroduction of wolves and those who see wolves as an integral part of our ecosystem. Whether you are for or against reintroducing wolves into our world, Nate Blakeslee’s American Wolf is an essential read for anyone interested in a fascinating part of American history and an important issue that continues to plague the west." --
