LTAP announces
training opportunities in 2020
For Year 2020, Louisiana LTAP will be conducting four Roads Scholar classes, a few Chainsaw Safety classes, and a three-day Local Public Agency (LPA) Program class in New Orleans.

LTAP ON THE GEAUX

LTAP presents at the Louisiana Safety Summit
Our very own LTAP Director Steve Strength and Local Road Safety Program Manager Leo Marretta presented to a group of road safety professionals who recently attended the statewide Louisiana Highway Safety Summit held last week at the Crowne Plaza in Baton Rouge. Strength presented on "The KISS System: Keeping It Simple for Safety" on November 19. He presented again on November 20 (in photo) together with Marretta on "Local Road Safety Plans and the Program: Next Steps to Zero".

Approximately 300 highway safety professionals, including engineers, planners, police officers, health experts and safety advocates attended the summit.
Local Public Agency Training held in Alexandria
The LTAP Team, along with our esteemed group of instructors from FHWA and DOTD, was down in Alexandria this month to conduct the Local Public Agency (LPA) Qualification Program Classes.

The training was meant to educate local agency personnel to understand the process and procurement requirements associated with implementing local transportation projects funded with federal and state funds.

Every Day Counts: Collaborative Hydraulics

Through the Every Day Counts (EDC) initiative, Louisiana LTAP encourages local agencies to deploy underutilized but proven effective innovations such as the collaborative hydraulics.
Advancing Transit Innovation in Rural Areas

In October, FTA selected the Community Transportation Association of America (CTAA) to manage a new Technical Assistance Center called the National Center for Applied Transit Technology (N-CATT)

New Orleans RPC's Pedestrian Safety Video

The New Orleans Regional Planning Commission is pleased to share this "Pedestrian Safety Saves Lives" video that was created with funding through the Louisiana Highway Safety Commission (LHSC).

Webinar on Improving Pedestrian and Bicyclist Safety in Work Zones
December 4, 2019

In this FHWA-led webinar, participants will learn about the importance of maintaining mobility for pedestrians, bicyclists and other road users when streets are under construction.

Safety Data Initiative Funding Opportunity for Local Agencies and MPOs

The USDOT is pleased to announce the release of a Notice of Funding Opportunity (NOFO) titled State and Local Government Analysis Tools for Roadway Safety. This seeks to fund state or local governments, metropolitan planning organizations (MPOs), and tribal governments.
EMERGENCY PREPAREDNESS
State Announces $100 Million Funding Opportunity for Local and Regional Flood Mitigation Projects

The state is accepting pre-applications from local and regional public entities to access $100 million in anticipated federal funds for projects that will address immediate flood mitigation needs. In-person briefings are scheduled on December 2-11.
FEMA Defers the Implementation
of Risk Rating 2.0

FEMA decided to defer the implementation of Risk Rating 2.0 by one year to October 1, 2021. Earlier this year, FEMA announced Risk Rating 2.0 as an initiative to deliver flood insurance rates that people trust, value and are less complex to navigate.

The Louisiana Parish Engineers and Supervisors Association (LPESA) i s calling for new members to sign up and current members to renew their membership in order to avail of the training and workforce development opportunities that it offers.

Registration is now open for the largest gathering of local infrastructure officials and engineering professionals and officials. Louisiana LTAP invites parish engineers and supervisors to consider attending.
