The Rochester District Golf Association made a special presentation to past LPGA Rochester International co-chairman and developer/owner of Executive South Family Golf Center, Charlie Lookup last week during the District's annual Christmas Party, hosted by Midvale Country Club.
RDGA Executive Director Tim Vangellow presented Lookup with the 2015 RDGA Lifetime Achievement Award - for his contributions to the local golfing community and his dedication to developing the game of golf throughout the Rochester area.
Lookup, a local contractor who was instrumental in helping to make changes to many area golf courses, was already an active member of the Rush-Henrietta Rotary Club when he was asked to volunteer for the fledgling Sarah Coventry LPGA tournament at Locust Hill Country Club in the mid-1970s. Lookup was soon asked to join the tournament's executive committee - and before long, he became the tournament's co-chair, alternating duties with his fellow chairs, Mike Stoudt and Elmer Conway. For the next decade and a half - during which the tournament became a fixture on both the LPGA Tour as well as the Rochester-area sports scene - Lookup helped guide the event into one of the Tour's most successful stops.
When Wegmans took over sponsorship of the tournament in the mid-1990s, Lookup directed his efforts elsewhere, but remained close to golf, working to promote junior golf and raising funds for the Rotary through annual LPGA Pro Ams. In 1993, Lookup opened Executive South Family Golf Center in Henrietta - a 9-hole short course that he designed and built - operating it until the Town of Henrietta took it over in 2010.
