February 18, 2021
Dear Friends in Christ:
On Tuesday afternoons I join a bunch of clergy online from around the country, and we talk about the texts for the coming Sunday. Last week we were discussing Lenten disciplines, and how we all might just need to take a pass this Lent as far as adding more struggles in the midst of constant COVID struggles. So, if you're a person who needs to hear from a priest that it is okay to sit this Lent out, I am here to give you that dispensation.
However, if you do decide to take on some Lenten discipline, I offer you this little essay I wrote a long time ago, in case you find it helpful. What Is Lent?
On to the updates . . .

WEEKLY PUZZLE
This week, I wanted to share something we see on the Altar each Lent, but most people probably don't see up close. (But also, I just thought this would make a challenging puzzle.) This is a photo of the beautiful Lenten veil, which rests over the chalice on the Altar for Holy Eucharist.
You will find the puzzle by clicking HERE. You can choose your background color, number of puzzle pieces, and even set it to display just the edge pieces. Plus, you get a very affirming crowd reaction once you have completed it!

ORGAN RECITALS
St. Joseph's Church (down the block) is hosting a series of organ concerts, featuring some musicians we know, including our very own Levi Muriuki. Unfortunately, these concerts will likely not be live streamed, but the hosts have promised they will be following COVID prevention protocols. If you feel comfortable attending, you can find more information HERE. If they do work out the online streaming of them, I will let you know.

TODAY AND BEFORE
Today, February 18, is the 100th anniversary of the passing of Wright Walker, one of the most interesting members of our parish. Mr. Walker was born enslaved in Georgia, yet later in life he freely bought the choir pews in our chancel. He made a living working as a servant in the Jarvis household, yet he left a small fortune to the Tuskeegee Institute, in Alabama. A remarkable man indeed. You can find out more about him HERE.
May God continue to inspire the people of St. Timothy's to make a difference in this world, as God has been doing throughout the 185 years we've been here.
Faithfully,
Fr. George
