Now that school is back in session, motorists are reminded of the laws relating to school buses and school speed zones. The Long Grove Park District has opportunities for Eagle Scout projects, and is hosting an educational presentation on Sandhill Cranes. Please remember to support our downtown Long Grove businesses for the duration of the RPC Road project, and during Irish Days, which will take place on August 31 - September 2 over Labor Day weekend. SWALCO is hosting their annual Recycle-O-Rama event this coming Saturday, and the Village's upcoming meetings can be viewed in the calendar below. Please also 'save the date' for the Long Grove/Kildeer/Hawthorn Woods Rotary Club's Oktoberfest celebration!

Thank you!

Asphalt Resurfacing on Rt. 22 Causing Traffic Delays
Asphalt resurfacing work has begun, and is being managed by the Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) on Rt. 22 between Quentin Road and Old McHenry Road. This project is expected to last until the end of September, weather-permitting. Significant traffic delays are occurring and are anticipated to continue through the end of this project; work will begin at 7:00 a.m. and end at 7:00 p.m. Motorists are advised to utilize detours.
Alternating Road Closures on Rt. 53/Old Hicks Road
The Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) has begun construction on Rt. 53 and Old Hicks Road. Due to periodic lane closures between Old McHenry Road and Lake Cook Road, traffic delays are expected. To help ease traffic congestion, lanes will be open during peak travel times from 6:00 - 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 - 6:00 p.m. Weather permitting, this project is expected to be completed prior to Thanksgiving. Watch for further updates in upcoming E-newsletters.  Any questions pertaining to this project can be directed to the IDOT Project Manager Jonathan Shumacher at  847-705-4260 or Jonathan.Schumacher@illinois.gov .

Village Hall Closed on Labor Day

Back to School Bus Safety
Most area school districts are now back in session, and that means school buses are again on our roadways transporting precious cargo - our children. Residents are strongly reminded of laws relating to school buses on the roads in order to keep our young people safe.  All vehicles are required to stop before meeting or passing a school bus that is loading or unloading children (unless the bus is traveling in the opposite direction on a 4-lane roadway). There is a $150 fine for failure to comply with this law, and a 3-month driving suspension for a first offense; a second offense will lead to a 1-year suspension of driving privileges and a $500 fine.  In school speed zones, and when children are present on school days between the hours of 7:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m., motorists must abide by a 20 mph speed limit. Failure to do so will result in a minimum $150 fine and a mandatory court appearance. Additional violations come with minimum $300 fines. Please remember to drive safely around school buses and in school speed zones!
RPC Project Update
Support Downtown Businesses!
The first phase of the Robert Parker Coffin (RPC) Road project - the installation of a water main from Archer Road west towards Old McHenry Road - is complete. All of the downtown Long Grove properties now have access to Lake Michigan water. Construction on RPC Road continues with the installation of the storm sewer, which will run from the RPC Bridge to Old McHenry Road; this stretch of road will be closed with a detour utilizing Rt. 53 in effect. Traffic on RPC Road, between Archer and Old McHenry Roads is one way heading westbound with periodic road closures.  Other planned improvements include  abutment repairs and painting of the RPC Bridge, as well as replacement of the Bridge's wooden cover.

Residents are encouraged to support downtown Long Grove businesses during this improvement project. Parking is available at the Stempel Parking Lot, in addition to the Village Tavern parking lot. Directional signs for all of the downtown shops and restaurants are posted throughout the downtown.
