House of Prayer
is a gathering of God's people who value:
Welcoming,
Openness,
Compassionate Community,
and Relationships

Here is an update of what is happening at
House of Prayer this week!
Worship This Sunday
Truly I tell you, whoever does not receive the kingdom of God as a little child will never enter it. Mark 10:15

Children have such easy access to joy. They live in the moment and are not burdened with the worries of tomorrow. When Jesus calls us to receive the kingdom of God as a child he encourages us to recapture our innocence and openness to others and God. We need to become like children again because of the darkness and trouble we are constantly exposed to. Join us Sunday as we consider the transformation of hardened hearts to child-like faith.
Children & Youth This Week
The Sunday School children will begin a new unit on the next part of the Exodus story - Crossing the Red Sea. Next week the youth will explore and try out some examples of three core discipleship practices: Worship, Prayer, and Service.
Simple Supper Menu
Menu for October 3rd:  Lasagna, garden salad, garlic bread, and fruit. Join us for dinner at 5:30 pm in Fellowship Hall!
Chili-FEAST Sunday
In the spirit of FEAST (1st Sunday of month at ReFuel), we encourage all chili makers to bring a pot of chili to share on Sunday, Oct 7 at 11am. It will be a smorgasbord of goodness that will bowl you over! Come worship and enjoy some chili!
Confirmation Retreat
This weekend our 7th and 8th grade confirmation youth will be up at Luther Park Bible Camp for their annual fall retreat! Pastor Ben will lead them in "Discovering the Real Jesus" through a look at 3 Gospel stories and we'll spend some time on the low ropes course at camp. Please pray for the group to travel safely, encounter God on the retreat, grow closer as a group, and have a lot of fun! Pictures will go up on the church Facebook page once we return.

Listening Sessions
House of Prayer Leadership Ministry Team has set up a task force to look at our core value of Welcoming.  In particular, what does it mean to be a welcoming church?  Our goal is to find out more about individual members of HOP, build relationships, and discuss how we could become a more welcoming congregation.  If you're called to participate in an interview, please take a little time and help us learn more about you.
Thanks,  Scott Wright HOP President

Helping Our Literal Neighbors
We have another opportunity to help Aeon, the housing nonprofit who recently bought the Season's Park Apartment buildings to the south of church. They continue to catch up on a LOT of deferred maintenance that previous owners ignored. They'd like our help painting the interior common areas in one of their buildings on Sunday, October 28th from noon-3pm. We'll eat lunch together after the 11:00 service is done and then head over to paint! If you'd like to join us, please sign up with Ben Whalen ( [email protected] or 612-500-9523). Please also contact Ben if you want to support this cause financially but missed the special offering opportunity. Thank you!
LSS Group Housing
HOP will be sponsoring 2 Lutheran Social Service group homes for people with disabilities in our neighborhood.  Mi Casa is on 70th and 12th Ave and My House is on 76th and Park. Kathryn Tiede from LSS and Emily the director of the group homes will be at HOP on Sunday October 28th to talk about how we can engage with these homes doing such things as sending cards, visiting, playing games, watching sports, driving to church or events, having a party, yard work, etc.   We will collect money to help with expenses at the homes.  A table will be set up in the narthex for you to  get more information and to volunteer.  This is a great opportunity for HOP members to reach out to our neighbors.
