Global New North Trade Missions

NEW North Logo

Commission staff has been a part of a Steering Committee charged with implementing the strategies outlined in the Global Trade Study completed in 2012. The set of activities to implement the study's five goals was branded Global New North and is a strategic initiative of New North, Inc. Since 2012, a complete resource directory has been developed, new business networking groups were formed, various trade missions are being promoted, a calendar of events was established, and a monthly newsletter focusing entirely on trade topics is being published. If you belong to a county, city, or local economic development entity and have ongoing contact with businesses that are either exporting or would like to export their goods, visit New North's website to subscribe to their newsletter and to view all the great resources that have been assembled to support the expansion of global trade for companies in Northeast Wisconsin.

Sheboygan MPO Update

Commission staff continues to prepare the Year 2045 Sheboygan Area Transportation Plan (SATP). Portions of draft Chapter 6 (Transportation and Land Use) was revised based on comments received in December; the revised chapter was reviewed at the January 22nd joint meeting of the Sheboygan MPO Technical and Policy Advisory Committees. Commission staff continues to prepare draft Chapter 7 (Recommended Transportation Plan); the main sections that remain to be completed in this chapter are: recommended capacity adding street and highway projects (candidate projects are currently being tested by the travel demand forecast model); recommended bicycle and pedestrian transportation projects (subject to fiscal constraint); and a comparison of travel demand projections under 2010 and 2045 baseline conditions and under 2045 conditions with the recommended transportation plan. Commission staff also continues to prepare draft Chapter 8 (Mitigation of Environmental Impacts of Major Transportation Projects), and continues to collect data for Chapter 9 (Financial Plan). Draft Appendix B (Transportation System Performance Indicators) was prepared in late December and in January, and was presented to the MPO advisory committees for review at their joint meeting on January 22nd.

The Wisconsin Department of Transportation approved the Sheboygan Metropolitan Planning Area Transportation Improvement Program (TIP): Calendar Years 2015 - 2018 in a letter dated January 9th. Copies of the final 2015 - 2018 TIP have been distributed to all members of the MPO advisory committees, and a paper copy of the document is on permanent public display at the Mead Public Library.
