CELEBRATES DIVERSITY
October marks the continuation of Hispanic Heritage Month, which started Sept. 15 and ends Oct. 15. The observation started in 1968 as Hispanic Heritage Week and expanded to a month-long commemoration in 1988. Cable operators and programmers traditionally mark the month by honoring the contributions of Hispanic and Latino Americans with special events and viewing options.

The month also has become a time for the cable industry – as a whole – to assess the status of and make a commitment to diversity. 
CABLE IN THE COMMUNITY
In cities and towns across Texas, local cable operators and their employees make their communities a better place to live. Cable companies not only make financial and in-kind donations to numerous civic and charitable organizations, but employees volunteer thousands of hours of their time each year. Check out the latest cable industry community initiatives below.
ALTICE USA
  • United Way Reaching for the Stars Concert: Altice USA partnered with the Amarillo Area United Way to support their annual Reaching for the Stars Concert in Amarillo. Altice employees volunteered at the event which raised money for scholarship funds for the Amarillo and Canyon Area United Way Youth Council
  • Fiestas Patrias Parade and Festiva: Altice USA participated in the Fiestas Patrias Parade and Festival in downtown Bryan, which helped raise scholarship funds for high school students and educators pursuing a master’s degree. Fiestas Patrias Mexicanas’ mission is to promote education through scholarships for higher education and instill the beauty of the Mexican culture and its rich traditions, through the collaboration of culture and the arts.
  • San Angelo Run with Heroes: Altice USA supported the San Angelo Run with the Heroes 5K in San Angelo. San Angelo Mayor Dwain Morrison and San Angelo Police Department Chief Frank Carter also participated in the event which supported first responders in the San Angelo, Midland and Abilene areas. The event raised funds for first responders and provided an opportunity for community members to meet and thank those who put their lives on the line to protect and serve their community every day.
CABLE ONE
  • Cable ONE Chromebook donation aids Charlie Marshall Elementary students in improving reading skills: Students at Charlie Marshall Elementary School in Aransas Pass are equipped with new Chromebooks this fall as the result of a Cable ONE initiative designed to improve student access to technology in schools. Now in its fifth year, the Cable ONE Cares program provides Chromebooks to Title I schools in the markets it serves. Cable ONE’s Aransas Pass General Manager Juli Blanda said that Cable ONE is committed to strengthening and improving the Aransas Pass community, not only through its products and services, but through support of the local community.   • Comcast recognized 2018 Hispanic Hero Awards winners: In celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month, Comcast honored 11 Houston area community volunteers during its annual Hispanic Hero Awards Gala on Sept. 21. During the event, Comcast paid tribute to individuals from the Hispanic community who have demonstrated an outstanding commitment in making a difference in the areas of volunteerism, mentorship, advocacy, and civic engagement.
