Director's Corner with K.C. Kloke

Greetings Chamber Members!

It's been an exciting week for our community and for our state ( GO CHIEFS!) and mother nature continues to make her presence known. Let's hope Phil the Groundhog has set us on the right course by not seeing his shadow this year, I for one, am ready for Spring to arrive.

Our chamber event committees have been very busy these last few months gearing up for an amazing 2020. Throughout this month's newsletter you'll find many sponsorship/investment opportunities we have created to provide branding opportunities to our chamber members. With a variety of events comes a variety of audiences; we'd love the opportunity to discuss your target audience and identify which events may bring extensive value to your company. Give us a call and we'll be happy to discuss this further!
While I'm on the subject of events, as I shared at our Annual Dinner in October of last year, we are rolling out an amazing Women's event this Fall. Just like our other chamber hosted events, it takes extensive planning to host a successful event. Although we're not quite ready to go public with our presenters and sessions, I would like to share the date, location, and sponsorships are confirmed. Please mark your calendar for October 1st & 2nd, 2020 for the Women Inspiring Women Central Missouri Conference to be held at The Lodge at Port Arrowhead. This conference will bring women together to grow in a variety of aspects of their life all the while providing an opportunity for Lake Area Chamber Members to have exposure to a direct market (women) and showcase their product/service.

Even though our Chamber Calendar stays pretty full, please know that we're never too busy to assist you and we want to ensure that you are getting value from your membership. I'd like to encourage you to take a moment and review our Chamber Member Benefits page (click here). By reviewing this page, it will first and foremost give you an opportunity to familiarize yourself with the variety of benefits already available to YOU. We hope you will be inspired to refer future members our way; as we all know growth and prosperity is our ultimate goal as a community.
Please don't hesitate to contact our Chamber Team should you ever have questions regarding your membership, need assistance, or want to share information valuable to our Chamber and our community.

We look forward to continuing to serve you!

Sincerely,

K.C. Cloke

~Luke's Legislative Update~

On January 15th, Governor Mike Parson delivered his State of the State address providing a preview of what's to come in the next few months of the Legislative session. See the speech here:

Just as any business would do, the State develops a yearly budget and the State of the State Address gives citizens of Missouri a first look at budget proposals the executive branch has in mind. The House and Senate are now working on their own Appropriations bills but, in his address to both chambers of the Missouri Legislature, Parson outlined his administration's priories for the upcoming fiscal year.

The House, Senate, and the Governor all have differing opinions on how much money there is to spend and how it should be spent. The state budget is a collection of trade-offs. The state constitution requires that the budget be balanced, so the state can only spend as much money as it collects through taxes, fees, and other sources. That means priorities must be weighed against each other.

Members have a chance to hear directly from some of our local State Representatives on this or other matters at the Eggs and Issues Breakfast on Thursday, March 26th, 2020 8am-9:30am at The Inn at Grand Glaize.

If you have any input on these topics, have a topic of your own you would like to discuss, or have any interest in joining the Lake Area Chamber of Commerce Legislative committee, please do not hesitate to reach out to me at [email protected]

Sincerely,
Legislative Committee Chairman
Luke Hagedorn
