Announcing Essay Contest
To promote all of the wonderful programs at the library, we are asking patrons to write a short essay describing how you have been affected by the Bradford Area Public Library. This contest is open to any library patron. The essay can cover how the library has affected you or your child's life, what the library offers to this community, or a personal experience you had in the library that improved or influenced your life. The essay should be 250 - 350 words, and handed in at the front desk of the library no later than Saturday, October 13. Gift certificates will be awarded to the top 2 winners! All questions should be directed to director@bradfordlibrary.org.

Art Club
Monday, October 3, 17 and 31
4:00- 5:00 pm
The Art Club meets every other Wednesday from 4:00 to 5:00 pm. The Art Club is for children going into the first through sixth grade.
Members study the works of famous artists and different forms of art and create works of art that illustrates the work. This month, the children will learn about Claude Monet and Pierre-Auguste Renoir. They will also continue work on their portraits.
Spacing is limited to 12 participants and preregistration is required to participate.
The program is free and open to the public.

Story Seekers
Every Monday and Friday

Calling all Story Seekers! The Bradford Area Public Library invites families with children ages birth to 5 to participate in our Story Seekers program every Monday and Friday at 11:00 am. We offer a variety of literacy activities that include reading, writing, talking, singing, and playing! A new story is offered each week with play experiences that encourage active learning and inspire the imagination. Children have opportunities to create their own stories using art materials, building blocks, dramatic play, and music and movement.
During the month of October, Story Seekers will talk about Halloween, making crafts related to the holiday. We will also explore changing seasons. We will read:
Monster at the End of this Book, Happy Haunting Amelia Bedelia, Hey How for Halloween,
and
Ghost Sounds.

Adult Puzzles

Elaine Summerday, our senior outreach coordinator, will facilitate an adult puzzles program. Participants will work on various jigsaw puzzles. Come in and challenge yourself.

Imagination to Build On: Architecture Group
Monday, October 10 and 24
4:00- 5:00 pm
Imagination to Build On will meet every other Wednesday at 4:00 pm. This program, for children in first through sixth grade, will run opposite to the Art Club. We will be learning about the history and different styles of architecture. They will work on activities designed to teach children about various forms of architecture and how buildings are constructed. They will learn about the foundations and framework of building. This month they will continue to work on their Eiffel Tower projects.
Spacing is limited to 12 participants and preregistration is required to participate.
The program is free and open to the public.

Best Baby Playgroup

CARE for Children's Best Baby Playgroup is a free program geared for babies, toddlers, and parents. Join us at CARE for Children Center for a short activity, a chance for children to play, and an opportunity to network. You'll see why they call CARE for Children the "Best Baby Playgroup!"

Jeffers Pumpkin Patch

Dave Jeffers returns with magic tricks. His rabbits and pigs will be joining him to help entertain the kids. They can make scarecrows and play games. LIFT Program

LIFT: Life and Independence for Today provides services and support to individuals with disabilities. They provide advocacy to help individuals and their families to make sure that they are aware of their rights and that their rights are upheld. They provide Independent Living skills to help people with disabilities learn how to live independently. They are a resource of information for people with disabilities and provide peer mentoring services. Learn more about their programs and services.

The Teen Book Club is inviting interested adults to join us on Wednesday, June 12 for a one day trip to New York City to see the Broadway play
To Kill a Mockingbird.
We will leave the Bradford Mall at 3am and return home the next morning at approximately 3am.
Patrons interested in going with us should give their $60 deposit to Marie Troskosky or Lacey Love by Friday, October 19. If you are sure you want to attend, you should call Marie (368-5463) or the library to reserve a space. We will take no more than 45 people on the bus.
The entire trip will cost each person no more than $220, which includes the bus trip, the theatre ticket, a tour of NBC studio, a chance to view NYC from the top of the Rock, and dinner at Planet Hollywood. Breakfast and lunch not included.
This trip is only for teen book club members, their parents, library staff and adult patrons. If you have questions, please ask Marie. Also, adults do not have to follow our itinerary. They may just choose to ride the bus down at a cost of $77.

Juice Box Heroes with Jim Ronan

Creative Share

The Creative Share program is an opportunity for people to share their poems, songs or creative writing with others. The library has expanded its former Poetry Slam to include other forms of writing as well.

Chess Club

Do you play chess? We have a club that is just for you. Bob Ferguson of the American Chess School will facilitate the club. Our membership is growing and includes members of the award winning state champions from Bradford.

Bradford Area Public Library would not be able to run without the help of volunteers, and we are currently recruiting more! If you have any interest in helping out with day to day library operations, please stop by the library to fill out a volunteer application. Teen volunteers must be older than 13 years of age.
Don't forget to check out the year-round used book sale we have in the lobby of the library! Books are organized alphabetically and by subject matter. Hardbacks $1, paperbacks 50 cents, magazines 10 cents, and CDs and VHS tapes 3 for $1.
We are currently taking donations of current novels by popular fiction authors for the used book sale. Please, nothing moldy, musty, or damaged. You can drop any donations off at the front desk.
