UPCOMING EVENTS
Broadway lyricist to conduct master class with GHS students
 
Event:  Nathan Tysen, original lyricist and composer of the Broadway musical "Tuck Everlasting," will conduct a theater workshop with Glendale High School theater students. A question-and-answer session will conclude the evening.
 
Where and When:  Glendale auditorium, 2727 S. Ingram Mill Road, Monday, Oct. 8,  4-6 p.m.
 
Why:   Glendale High School received special permission to perform the Broadway musical from Tysen and his musical partner, Chris Miller. GHS has the distinction of being the first high school in Missouri to perform the musical.

Interview Opportunities:  Drama teacher Lesa Bettencourt and sophomore Elle Douglas, who is the primary lead playing Winnie Foster, will be available for interviews at the event.  Tysen can be reached prior to the event at [email protected]

Support for families dealing with developmental disabilities
 
Event:  Live, Learn, Work, Play Resource Fair and Conference, a collaboration between Springfield Public Schools and Abilities First.
 
Where and When:  Hillcrest High Scool, 3319 N. Grant Ave., Saturday, Oct. 20, 8 a.m. - 1:30 p.m.
 
Why: The event will provide families with access to community resources and information on strategies to address challenging behaviors, understanding Medicaid and benefits, vocational rehabilitation services, and transitions out of high school.

Interview Opportunities:  Representatives from more than 20 local community businesses, agencies and support programs will be available to answer questions as well as Krista Robbins, SPS transition coordinator. 
Fun evening provides funds for academic success

Event:  12th Annual Phelps Center for Gifted Education trivia night and silent auction.  Prizes for best table decorations and best team costumes will be awarded.  Learn more.

Where and When:  Phelps Center for Gifted Education, 934 S. Kimbrough Ave., Friday, Nov. 9, 6 p.m. (doors open at 5:30 p.m.)

Why:  Money raised will be used to further the work of providing gifted students with a challenging and appropriate education experience.
 
Interview opportunities:  Families of gifted students as well as Dr. Lenae Lazzelle, director of gifted education.
