SBERP Welcomes Director of Industry Growth Initiatives
Jill Scicchitano is the South Bend - Elkhart Regional Partnership's (SBERP) new Director of Industry Growth Initiatives. In this newly developed role, Jill will focus on advancing regional employment in higher pay traded industry clusters by providing business support and improved infrastructure for the region's growing companies and industries. She will work directly with the Regional Partnership's Industry Growth Committee to coordinate and implement key strategies and will serve as the primary point of contact. Read More.
Additive Manufacturing Regional Summit
Last week, ITAMCO hosted an Additive Manufacturing Regional Summit, providing insight into this emerging technology which according to Mckinsey & Company will reach $100 Billion by 2025. "We had a wonderful turn out for our first Annual Additive Manufacturing Regional Summit, we had 80 attendees and included universities, investors, students, and manufacturers from as far away as Wisconsin," said Joel Neidig, ITAMCO Director of Research & Development. Leading Metro Locations 2018: Area Development
To help track growth trends, Area Development recently released its 8th annual Leading Metro Locations report that takes a multifaceted look at 394 metropolitan statistical areas (MSAs) and ranks them based on Prime Workforce, Economic Strength, Year-Over-Year Growth, and Five-Year Economic Growth. The results come from crunching a wide variety of data and are culminated in its list of "Leading Metro Locations." The analysis also uses the same data to determine the top large, medium-size, and small metros. Learn More.
1st Source Bank Making a Solar Impact
Solar financing is heating up at 1st Source Bank. The South Bend-based organization has invested in 10 solar projects in six states in a little more than a year, including two in Indiana and one in Michigan. Commercial solar energy projects entered the company's orbit a few years ago when the bank was considering areas with profitable growth potential that would capitalize on its previous experience in specialized fields. New Business: ROSTA Relocates to Benton Harbor
ROSTA is known worldwide for its professional vibration isolation solutions. The company started out solving suspension needs for truck trailers, and now ROSTA rubber spring elements are used in many industries. New President, Jeremy Thiele is also committed to immersing the company and employees in local activities that promote the economic and community development of Michigan's Great Southwest. With a boost from Cornerstone Alliance, Jeremy has quickly gone to work to execute his growth and expansion strategy by relocating the U.S. headquarters to 797 Ferguson Drive in Benton Harbor, just off of the I-94 interchange with M-139. Technology Resource Center Being Planned
The city of South Bend's Redevelopment Commission approved $2.7 million for the establishment of a Technology Resource Center (TRC) inside the Catalyst Two building at South Bend's, Ignition Park. The 12,500-square-foot center will focus on solving problems and creating greater efficiencies through technology. It will connect local groups from business and the public sector with tools to collect, analyze and utilize data to achieve greater productivity. This effort will encourage collaboration among business, education, as well as the public and nonprofit sectors. IT Needs Survey for the South Bend - Elkhart Region
Today, all businesses need some level of IT talent, from entry-level programmers to the highest levels of data scientists. Your input will help the newly established IT Sector Partnership ensure the local IT workforce pipeline is in place to meet your current and future needs. Data collected through an early 2018 survey defined the broad IT workforce needs of a limited number of employers. This Phase 2 survey was designed to more clearly identify skill and educational attainment needs and align the development of educational programs and resources with available jobs and career opportunities. Please take the time to complete this survey before August 3rd (approximately 30 minutes). Your employer voice is necessary to ensure talent is being prepared to meet your needs!

Startup South Bend - Elkhart Welcomes Newest Board Member
SEMMA Health, Inc. President, Susan Ford recently joined the Startup South Bend - Elkhart Board of Directors as their newest St. Joseph County representative.The entrepreneurship board is comprised of entrepreneurs and business leaders representing the University of Notre Dame, St. Joseph County, Marshall County, Elkhart County, the Regional Development Authority, Elevate Ventures board and staff and enFocus, as well as at-large members.
IDEA Center Launches 27 Startups in First Year of Operation
The IDEA Center at the University of Notre Dame surpassed its goal of creating 16 faculty and student startup companies in its first year by launching 27 companies between July 2017 and June 2018. That number nearly equals the total number of startups, 33, in the University's entire 175-year history prior to 2017-18, and it exceeds by a wide margin the previous single-year record of three startups in 2016. Another Regional Cities Project Breaks Ground
Earlier this month, community leaders gathered to break ground on the new Plymouth Aquatic Center and Early Childhood Learning Center. The 27,000 square foot Aquatic Center is expected to attract visitors and transform quality of life for those who live here. "The South Bend - Elkhart Region is investing in its residents and in its future through projects like the Plymouth Aquatic Center and Early Childhood Learning Center," said John DeSalle, President of Hoosier Racing Tire and Vice Chair of the South Bend - Elkhart Regional Development Authority. This is one of 26 projects set to receive Regional Cities funding.
